No coach-like any other human being-can say they are NEVER going to do any particular action...other than not becoming a USuC fan. Besides, who the #### would want to go Alabama knowing their history. After Bear Bryant retired, you may recall they hired the coach of the NY Giants at the time. He was less than successful there. He got death threats. He left and took tyhe job at Kentucky for a while. Even after he left, he was still getting death threats from those idiots with non branching family trees. If Saban had 2 losing seasons, even after all his success, they'd kick him to the curb in a heartbeat. You might not like Saban but he's a smart guy and he left at a good time for his legacy. Dabo has created a legacy. He built a program that had crashed and burned after DF left.

It's our turn to NOT be like AL fans and run their coach out of town...like some people would have liked to have done back during the season.

Dabo’s Y’all Speech was very moving, and it had to be reassuring to incoming players and their parents. I too am relieved that Dabo is staying. He IS Clemson football, and the success he led us to has transformed the fan base, the Clemson area, other sports, and the university itself.

I do wonder if we can return to greatness in the new reality of coaches using NIL and the Portal aggressively. I mean, will ANY college football team ever again win a national championship with mostly high school recruits?

Not to mention, while Dabo has proved to be one of the best recruiters in the sport, a lot of other coaches are great recruiters now. And since our play has definitely slipped over the past three years, that has to affect our recruting.

There was a time when a lot of us just assumed that when Saban retired, Dabo would lead the list of possible sucessors. He was born and raised in Alabama and played on a championship team for the University of Alabama. He has also won two national championships, so lots of stature.

And yet, unless I missed it, he was not under consideration for the job when Nick hung up the headphones. Why? Could be that Dabo signaled quietly he wanted to stay at Clemson, a place he clearly loves. Or maybe the recent slide of our program was concerning to Alabama. Or perhaps Dabo’s angry, defensive rant after Tyler’s phone call made Dabo too controversial.

In any case, we are fortunate that he is staying. And besides, who wants to be the coach who succeeds Nick Saban?
