He was a catcher, but better known by me for being an excellent baseball announcer. Rest in peace.

McCarver told of a time he went to the mound to talk to Gibson and Gibson told him to go back behind the plate , the only things he knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit. He was also Steve Carlton’s catcher with the Phillies.

Absolutely loved listening to him announce games especially in the playoffs ....He put you inside the heads of the players on the field
