Established in South Carolina in 1801 as South Carolina College (The REAL USC was chartered in 1880 while the University of Second Choice was renamed in 1906), this school (now UofSC) has a reputation for poor academics, terrible campus life, and an overall negative image. With limited course offerings, unqualified professors, and a dismal graduation rate of 42%, students face challenges in both learning and socializing. Filthy dorms and bad food add to the woes. Despite being famous for being a party school, it has found itself on multiple lists of the worst colleges in America. Prospective students must consider the average debt of $24,692 when evaluating this institution.
In fairness, I'm guessing that most of the students faced learning challenges long before they ever got to Chicken Central. I've often heard it said that if you can't go to college, you can always go to UofSC because they will admit ANYONE under 80 that hasn't been dead for more than three days.

He said they will admit anyone under 80 that hasn’t been dead for three days. Sounds like sarcasm to me…

The town is still a dump - but the admissions (and state Gov't, I believe) are pushing for more students (they're currently just over 30K) in effort to help revitalize Columbia, altogether.
Only 35% of Columbia residents have a bachelors degree. Meaning that next to none of the students stay in Columbia after graduation.
The city has effectively gained 15K new residents in just over 20 years. That's relatively pathetic for a college town that sits on 3 rivers and a lake.
If it weren't for the U, this town would be a mini-Detroit.

Lake Murray is between the Dutch Fork area and the town of Lexington area going towards batesburg leesville, 10-15 miles outside of Columbia. It is still a dump of city.

Had a younger co worker tell me recently “I didn’t realize until now that USC is in the middle of the ghetto.” Trust me you wouldn’t want to send your daughter to that school with as dangerous as their campus is. Imagine campus life where you have to stay in your dorm all the time to avoid being robbed or stabbed or even worse.

Sad to see DeVry on the list. I received a football scholarship to play there and enjoyed playing Canadian middle schools.
