Who cares if Bama offered Swinney.

Or if they even called him. Or if he dissed them.
It's a dead horse.

They finished strong against KY and showed flash -- lots of interesting threads heading into the Spring.

But theyve *got* to make the 12-team tourney. If they miss out on that, I believe Swinney's seat *will* (and should) get warm.

Nope. If there is one thing that is certain in college football it is that it is hard to find a new coach who fits your university. Just the thought of Coach Swinney leaving reminded a bunch of people of that so it would have to get much much worse for Clemson to consider moving on from the heading coaching GOAT here.

Maybe at Clemson, yeah.

Youre prolly right. Very kind and patient fanbase and donors. But if they miss the playoffs, it's going to be a moment where folks ask if Clemson's shrinking back into the landscape of merely good teams. And if that's what folks are good with, okay. It'll be good enough.

for the bad reasons. So there's that.

A coach has a LOT more to do than just make a "12-team tourney".

I don't agree with your assertion that he'd be on the hot seat.

Exactly, Dabo does things the right way. The only thing that he has that a lot of folks hated, was applying his coaching project of home grown coaching that didn't work out the way that he probably thought it would. Other than that, it's been a bunch of conference championships, 4 Natty games and two Natty wins. Personally, the only coach that I would have given thought of trading him in for, that coach just retired, so that makes Dabo a keeper above all IMO!!!

It's on the record, both Larry Williams and David Hood reported it.

You are all alone in being confused about what transpired.

Personally, I'm guessing your a South Carolina fans posing as a Clemson fan. I've never talked to a Clemson fan in real life who sounds as dumb you.

Just sayin.

Didnt see on-record reporting of Swinney turning down an offer, though. Send it along if you have it.

…. Dabo on the hot seat next year if he doesn’t make the 12 team playoff? I want to win as bad as anybody but that’s just idiotic. No he will not be if we don’t.

To me, Dabo's most important experience in his resume is his time selling real estate. He learned lots there I bet.

Actually, I love winning Championships but I would be pleased to average 9-10 wins a year as long as one of them is ALWAYS the shameholes.

Fair take.

I tend to fall into that mode but then my business brain kicks in and realize Swinney is now the highest-paid HC in the game.

9-10 wins a year is good. But I think he's gotta stay great to stay put.

If he has 9-10 wins and his seat gets warm. We are destined for failure. We as fans got spoiled by the ran we had but look around the country and see what other team outside of Bama was up there. I understand best is the standard but in the new college football pay for play everyone is trying to figure out their path.

calling it a good year, given the nature of the 12-team selection process.

But I think it'll be harder for him to keep the questions at bay if they miss the playoff again.

Barring a major collapse of Gamecock like proportions, which I don’t see happening, Dabo is here until he retires IMO. Dabo is the face of our football program and should remain so for the foreseeable future.

Dabo’s seat will always be at room temperature. There are horses for courses and he is our guy for as long as he wants to be. He just showed his loyalty to us and we will reciprocate. If he ever feels he can’t deliver like he expects, he will take himself out before we ever have to.

Pending DeBoer's deal ... which I doubt will eclipse Saban's given what he's making at Washington.

I'll never agree that a HC should be the dude just because everyone's comfortable with them, their schtick, or their past accomplishments. Theirs should be the least-comfy seat at the table.

Clemson has to decide what is the standard, not Swinney. If it's a return to CFP-level play, then 2024 is a bellwether year

Otherwise, if being a good (but not perennially great), fundamentally sound program is the standard, then he's golden.

Personally, I'd rather see them win titles than claim moral victories, given the money my in-laws dump into the program. But that's just me.

Same for my family's seats in DKR back in Austin. It's just stupid expensive anymore. Mediocrity, therefore, is not acceptable

But to your point about him deciding to go if he sees he cant win anymore, sure. Maybe he's got that kind of weight and can self-determine.

But few get to go out that way.

The ncaa made it much more difficult for the smaller schools to compete in today’s free agency. They geared it towards the bigger schools with the most $$$. Clemson is at a dasiadvantage. Being in the ACC doesn’t help either with its low payout. South Carolina is scared and will continue trying to block Clemson for entry into sec.
