Sometimes you have to make tough decisions and have players compete for that scholarship. There is no argument that the transfer portal DOES NOT improve a team. Please give me some evidence on when it didn’t make a team better off

To this point, Dabo's Clemson has not been a place where they yanked scholarships for ON the field performance. Doubt it ever will. You Whining CSers don't realize, that's how Dabo built Clemson. Once he goes against that,it tears down what makes it Family.

Nobody is saying a portal QB or WR can’t make a difference, but you can be an elite program with HS players and perhaps a key spot like QB. Without a great QB, it doesn’t matter who your wide receivers are.

as are all of the transfers out there. That little truth seems to escape many on here who just can't help themselves in thinking that without getting talent from the portal we are somehow missing the boat.
Dabo was pretty clear that his primary duties regarding the portal lie first in keeping the talent he has in the program here. Mukuba and D Kendrick are really the only two quality guys that we've lost over this entire spell that left a bit of a hole to fill, which we already have on campus.

Miami and Duke were far from elite. We lost to Miami due to untimely turnovers and a boneheaded decision by Cade to keep the ball instead or handing off as he was supposed to do.

Agreed. I hate all the "one play away...we beat ourselves" talk, but good grief. In the Miami game we fumble right before breaking the plane of the EZ and they fall on it for a turnover. They fumble going into the EZ and they fall on it for a TD... 14 points swing right there in an OT game... That doesn't even take into account the other turnover in plus territory and all the poor decisions made...

been able to string together a full game good enough to beat us without those added players. When you are overhauling your weaknesses for the better it makes you a more polished team. FSU is not undefeated without the transfer portal. Their entire defense was overhauled. Keon Coleman was their best offensive playmaker this year. It mattered in FSU's case. Mattered in Duke's case early on in the year.
Its going to be a big story going forward. SCAR doesn't beat us the year prior without transfers. Which means we would be at 9 in a row without the getting those players. How great would it have been to have Keon Coleman at WR this season?
I just don't like that we're viewed as against it. Every article i read is Clemson is failing to adapt. Thats the national narrative on Clemson and thusly I don't think players even think about us as an option.

portal, but those teams that use it as a complimentary tool are the teams doing it right. Every playoff team over the last two years had at least one starter from the portal. Don't build from it, but use it to fill holes.

probably not. They are pushing hard on high school recruits. Next is keeping current players.
Portal players are at most third. A portal player has to practically recruit himself.

You portal pumpers fail to take into account that not everyone wants to come play at Clemson, and Clemson does not want just anyone to come play here, we don't take one-and-done and we are not in the pay for play business...

I find it hard to believe that we regularly sign talented players from high school who fulfill our criteria, but we can't do the same with ANY players from the portal several years running now.
Bottom line, Dabo prefers not to use the portal, and his heart isn't in it. The results speak for themselves.

I think Dabo and co understand that it's not sustainable. I think in a year or two you'll see the portal starting to calm down because nobody is getting paid anymore. Boosters can't continue to dish out the kind of cash it takes to get superstars every year. A one or two time thing? Sure. But this definitely won't be a yearly thing in the future imo.

My feeling too. This game is going to circle back to being more about recruiting and development, and having both the culture and NIL to maintain continuity. Big boosters are going to learn that spending insane money on buying players rarely wins them a championship. The wells won’t dry up but they will flow much less vigorously at some point. Sure teams will hit the jackpot in the portal like FL State did occasionally , but that won’t get them consistency. The successful teams will stick to recruiting and development, minimizing portal losses of top players and filling gaping holes only with the portal. I hope we can improve on that last part, and we’ll be fine.

Going after portal players is unfair to our current players who have worked hard and are devoted to Clemson.
Plus, Clemson doesn't have any money. We don't have any donors with big pockets, nor do we have any ability to help players get big NIL deals.
In addition, Dabo runs a clean program and isn't willing to pay players since that's what it takes to get them.
Also, there is a huge conspiracy against Clemson to harm our program, because other programs are jealous of us and our success. These teams, media members, and other clandestine groups have joined together to take us down, even if it means poisoning the good Clemson name to recruits.

Please go read the FSU penalty announcement from yesterday. Paying a player upfront with NIL money is illegal. Can you imagine the penalty if Dabo cheated and got caught?

Well, another way to look at it is........if you were a hot shot, highly rated WR, would you want to be developed by the same coaches who just recruited and developed Ngata, Beau Beau, Ladson, E.Williams, Ajou, etc. etc.

choose to play for other schools. It's always that way, and always will be. But guess what - Clemson gets great players that don't go to other schools as well. Every school can only take so many players. Don't know if you are aware, but Clemson signed two top five/ten WRs out of HS in the upcomimg class. That, combined with the fact that we have some really good ones returning, makes it obvious why we weren't looking for WRs in the portal. But, by all means have a hissy fit over it.
I'm not opposed to proper use of the portal, but I don't believe it's a substitute for high-level High School recruiting. It's to be used selectively on an as needed basis. This year Clemson did not need it for WRs. One of the results is that OR, and a lot of other schools, will get some of the good WRs that Clemson could not take. Supposedly we tried for a few OL in the portal, but came up short. I have a feeling that if OR could have recruited enough WRs out of HS, they wouldn't need to be hitting the portal.
Could Clemson benefit from using the portal? Probably, and at some point, they probably will. Is the fact that OR got a good WR from the portal some kind of proof that Clemson is getting "boat raced" by not using the portal more aggressively? Hayull no. Take a deep breath, and land your plane.

Teams that live by the Portal, will eventually die by the Portal. This $hit has to stop or College Football with follow NASCAR!

What SO many are missing is the impact of not using the portal in terms of our OPPONENTS getting strong. Clemson isn’t as talented on offense as of late, but the recruiting is there. But BECAUSE of the portal, teams like Duke, Miami and FSU have been able to CATCH UP to us. It’s like being on a treadmill and not moving. We’re not actively trying to take a step back, but we’re still moving backwards if not making an effort to advance. Those teams beat us with transfers at critical positions — they were far worse than us just a few years ago. Those players Clemson does not go after will go elsewhere, and we might end up facing. We would be improving ourselves AND holding back opponents if we used the portal

We don't need a WR from the portal. We have several play makers that can create separation if Cade has time to throw the ball. What we need is an improved offensive line and I believe we will have that with Matt Luke at the helm.

If I am not mistaken Dabo said he just looks within his locker room for replacement players to fill positions. I guess with all the " gritty, grinders who are ballers " he always speaks of, he doesn't need to use the portal. It will be interesting to see how this formula works out in the upcoming seasons. As of this date, this concept hasn't produced much success the past 3 seasons in pursuit of the CFB playoffs.

Who is going to beat an NIL deal with Phil Knight?
They bankrolled and recruited Ed O’Bannon in the cornerstone case against the NCAA (O’Bannon vs NCAA) that practically established the NIL as we know it.
