Working on 24-25 Excuses for Brad

1. It's a rebuilding year!! (this will be the favorite, I feel confident)
2. There's no commitment from the Administration
3. There's no fan support
4. The sun was in my eyes
5. Just 14 more years

Am I doing this right?

It could be a rebuilding job depending on who they get and who leaves from the portal.
Time for Wiggins and Godfrey to make huge strides like Chef did this year as a junior. Need a dymanic scoring guard in the portal and a good bigman.
The three frosh are very good prospects but most likely going to be role players their first year.

Dillon and Beadle will need to be big contributors next year too. Without transfers, starters should be Beadle, Dillon, Wiggins, Godfrey and Schief. All have shown some good things. Beadle driving and dishing to Godfrey or Schief might be a big part of the offense next year.

it has been a good year, but right now at this time saying it has been one of the best years in history is not a given.

Clemson has been to the NCAAT 13 times so far. I would not even put it in the first half of those NCAAT years. Did you think last season was one of the best years in their history? I would say "Not".

OK, if they make the Sweet Sixteen then you have a good point, but now not a given finishing 6th in a weak ACC.

Another problem is trying to compare historically. I think Sports Reference’s SRS is one of the only sites that attempts to create historical rankings. But there is an obvious bias towards the post 64 team era. Teams rack up more quality games in both the NCAA and NIT than in prior eras. It really distorts the formula when comparing with pre-64 team eras. It’s also really meant to be a comparative rank within each season. While you can argue how “good” the team was, sports really only matter relative to the competition you are playing. We’re currently ranked 23rd by that metric this season. Brad has only equaled or bettered it once. Purnell was 23rd or better 4 consecutive years. And he was screwed out of the tourney way worse in 2007 than we were last year. After his inaugural losing season, Purnell had one season with a SRS ranked 50th. Brad has been ranked 50th or less 8 times in his 14 year tenure. Barnes had us 13th and 17th in his 3rd and 4th seasons. Ellis equalled or bettered twice in ten years. A better percentage than Brownell. Foster achieved rankings of 4th and 8th - Brownell hasn’t come close. The 79-80 season is the second best season by SRS rank, but stands only 8th amongst Clemson seasons by SRS. Tate Locke even had an 11th ranked season. Regardless of our history, we can do significantly better than Brad. Our history, as modest as it is, does not actually rank him kindly.

They are going to make the NCAAT and that is a solid accomplishment. What they do with that will determine whether this is really one of our best seasons.

We still need to upgrade the pep band with a kazoo section. I think it would really help on the road.

Losing just 1 key player has always moved Brad back to square 1. Imagine what 3 is gonna do.

I made a long post that pretty much summed up frustrations w/ BB: he can build up to a point, but he can't sustain success. Takes him 3-4 years to build up to having a NCAAT team (or in case of 2013-14 team, 1 that was tourney caliber), then when he loses the centerpiece he enters a virtual 3-4 year rebuild to get to the next 1.

We lost a key player off of last years team and didnt go back to square one.

No commitment from administration = we don’t spend as much per year as everyone else. That’s all I keep hearing. My argument is you could put BB at Duke or UNC and they’d turn into what Clemson is now. Then they’d fire him.

We've spent about $100M on basketball facilities since 2015.

According to Brownell himself, we've had "some of the best facilities in the ACC and the country" and "a first-class experience" for the student athletes for 8 years (since 2016 when the renovations opened).

Clemson hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newest round of renovations in Littlejohn on October 14, 2016. These upgrades took roughly 16 months to complete, beginning shortly after the 2014-15 season in order to have them done as efficiently as possible. Their game against Georgia on Nov. 11 of 2016 served as their “grand reopening” of the stadium, allowing fans to experience the renovations first-hand.

This $63.5 million project consisted of a number of upgrades, along with the addition of some features to help accommodate players and provide them with the best equipment and atmosphere possible.

And then last year

The Clemson BOT and the Finance Facilities Committee gave Phase 1 approval on a plan for comprehensive improvements to Swann Pavilion and Littlejohn Coliseum worth $40M. Those upgrades benefit both men's and women's basketball programs, with the recently added gymnastics program beginning competition next spring. The project includes renovations of more than 51,000 square feet of existing team spaces and 30,000 square feet of new construction. Construction would commence upon Phase II Board and State approval (Clemson).
