Apologies if german, but I know there are several runners on here, of various ages and levels, and thought this would be of interest. At the Chicago marathon this past weekend, a runner broke the world record for a marathon with a time of 2:00:35. This means that for 26.2 miles he averaged a 4:36 mile. That is INSANE. That's an average speed of almost 14mph (13.76mph). I run a half marathon distance almost every Saturday morning, and my best (I'm 54 and have only been running for about 4 years) is 2:10:05 for a HALF marathon. This guy did it TWICE as fast and for TWICE as far! Unbelievable.

It really was incredible because Chicago is not known to be the fastest marathon course either. Weather was ideal which definitely helped all who competed but still unreal when you look at the math you posted. My fastest was 2:53 at Boston and this guy just stomped me by over 50 minutes. Unreal

I ran 2500 miles last year. I run just under a 20 minute 5K

Even on my best day, I cant hold a sprint at his 26 mile AVERAGE pace for a quarter of a mile........That is crazy.

Technically it's already been achieved, but it's not officially recognized. Look up Nike and Breaking2 where they had several runners at Monza in Italy. Eliud Kipchoge did a 1:59:40 in October 2019.
