1. Keep current ACC if (big if): It is guaranteed to be stable (no defections by schools like FSU) and revenue becomes comparable to other top conferences. 2. Go to SEC with or without any other ACC schools. 3.Go to some other conference, such as Big Ten, along with a good group of other ACC schools (such as FSU, Ga Tech, the four NC schools, and Va Tech). These former ACC schools would compose most or all of a division in the new mega-conference. 4. Go to some conference other than SEC with only one or two other ACC schools. I hope this doesn’t happen.
Agree? I might be convinced to switch options 2 and 3.
I stated this literally 40 years ago. It is never gonna happen, just a pipe dream of mine. But, since you asked, If I was elected Exalted Emperor and Omnipotent Potentate of College football I would do the following:
1. 64 teams playing in a division of what we now call P5. 2. 8 conferences. 3. 8 teams each conference. 4. 8 team playoff for national championship between the 8 conference champs. 5. Each conference figure out how they are going to pick a champ (tie breakers, etc.) 6. Conferences aligned geographically.
One conference would be: FSU, UF, Clemson, SC, UGA, GT, Bama, Auburn.
Yes, as of today that conference would be an amazingly strong conference. But, I don't care. Win your conference and even if you have 3 losses you still qualify for national championship.
