Remember watching the ACC Tournament at school

Remember when we were kids and watched the ACC tournament day games on those library carts with the huge outdated TV’s on them from the very first round.

It used to be a big deal, now we are on ESPN 2 for a semifinal game. That’s why the ACC isn’t bringing in the money & recruits it used to have in my opinion.

I definitely remember the same thing. From elementary school through high school, the ACC tournament was a big deal. I was telling my kids about that yesterday and they were blown away.

yep! and growing up in the triangle, we would always have "school spirit day" the first day of the tournament and the cafeteria would have either Duke/UNC Blue, Red, or Yellow frosting cakes... no orange cake for me... I was the only Clemson fan at my school but wore my colors proud.

Remember watching the tourney in Johnstone with windows open and hearing collective “Oooooos” and “Ahhhhhhs” from all 4 wings?

Expansion also hurt this. Back then, any ACC matchup was interesting to me because of our common shared history and regional familiarity. Now if the game includes Cuse, BC, Pitt, ND, Miami, VT, or Louisville, I don’t really find it interesting unless Clemson is involved.

I believe the tournament was only broadcast regionally though on Jefferson Pilot through local network affiliates so it wasn’t like all rounds were on ESPN when I was in school (ESPN didn’t come along until I was in high school). I’m not even sure what year the final started being on something national. I can tell you for sure once the finals moved to Saturday instead of Sunday to help the committee get their work done on time the luster was pretty much off the tournament and it takes a backseat to resting your guys for the NCAAT.
