A very influential part of the early 90's Dallas Cowboy dynasty.

He goes all the way back to the 60s. I thought he had passed a long time ago.

Gil Brandt might have been the best ever in evaluating player potential. He tagged Charlie Waters as a DB, and Charlie had never played defense.

I remember during the 1978 season he said that Clemson seniors Steve Fuller, Jerry Butler, Dwight Clark, Joe Bostic, and Steve Kenney would play in the NFL. He hit on all of them and all had long careers.

Gil Brandt was a key to the Cowboys' success during their great years.

Back when I loved The Cowboys and actually cared about

… professional football.

Our man Charlie Waters for sure.

But, Tom Landry, Don Meredith, Roger Staubach, Bob Lilly, Leroy Jordan,Chuck Howley, Bob Hayes, Jethro Pugh, Walt Garrison, and yes … even old Dan Reeves.

That was such a long time ago.

Don't forget Randy White, Mel Renfro, Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Cornell Greene, Rayfield Wright, Don Perkins, and Walt Garrison.

I NEVER cared for the Cowboys. Part of that was the audacity

Aug 31, 2023, 5:08 PM [ in reply to Back when I loved The Cowboys and actually cared about ]

they had to call themselves "America's Team". I'm sure that didn't sit too well with any of the other franchises in the NFL. Also, the "Great Stone Face" Tom Landry was an enigma. I can see trying to keep your emotions on an even keel, but he made Ye Olde Vulcan Mr. Spock look like a raving lunatic.

The Cowboy's did not call themselves America's Team it was coined by announcers and media because where ever they played lots and lots of Cowboy fans showed up.

I saw the 'Boys play in Atlanta with Staubach and then many years later with Aikman. Both times Cowboy fans were almost half of the stadium. Saw them play in Charlotte as well and same thing lots of Cowboy fans.

I plan on going to Carolina to see them play this year. My son and I go to Buffalo Wild Wings every Sunday to watch the Cowboys and all the other pro games.
