Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon Las Vegas - anyone run it? Thoughts??

Haven’t run a half marathon. Many a 10k but that is it. Getting old and have yet to check off the marathon. So have been getting slooowly back into “running” - the past several months.

Anyway, looking at half marathons six months out or so and the Vegas one is appealing to me. Anyone ever run this race or any rock n roll race and what are your thoughts?

Will see how this goes and if well then target a full marathon for about this time next year.

Update: thank you all for the feedback. I’ve heard great things about the Kiawah races. Never considered Key West. That sounds intriguing.

I don't think I ever will.

Had a friend who did - too hot. He didn’t enjoy it.

Otoh, I have heard plenty of folks say they have enjoyed rock & roll marathon/half-marathon events in other locales.

Pro tip - if you’re training for a marathon just to get it off your bucket list, forget any notion of running it in a certain time. Your only meaningful goal is to finish and to “enjoy” the experience.

Sage pro tip advice. I plan to follow it.

I've heard criticisms about the course on that one.

That it runs in circles, although that may be the marathon.

Just run the Kiawah half marathon in December and the marathon the next year.

I think the full marathon ran loops around a large parking lot for a bunch of the miles. The half didn't do that.

I ran it in 2018 when it was held in November

It was my first half marathon (and last) and was a bucket list thing, so I didn't worry about my time.

Personally, I thought it was about as much fun as running can possibly get, which is to say it was fine, but nothing spiritual or anything. The best part was running up and down the Strip and it starts at dusk so it wasn't too hot. Very flat course, very dry air, and several live bands playing along the course.

IMO it was a great thing to do if you only plan to do one, and I mean, it's Vegas. Make a vacay out of it.

Vacay & races & such - if you want to make a vacay kinda

trip out of it - or any running trip - get there right before the race (a day or 2 at most) - do the race - and THEN vacay.

Trying to vacay with impending death running coming up is NO WAY to do it. The thought of what is happening 4 days later dictates food, drink, sleep, activities, etc.

Have done that once and it was terrible.

The Key West half marathon - while not a Rock N Roll branded event, is alot of fun. But plan for the Duval Crawl AFTER the event.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

I ran it in Nov. 2016, just after my divorce.

It was fun then, but I also swore I'd never run another half marathon again.
