Sammy's charges

May 4, 2012, 1:52 PM

Kid makes a mistake. In exams this week. So he has 2 pills that treat A.D.D. They help you focus. Pretty handy for studying. Not an excuse, just reality. Pot takes the edge off. Again, not an excuse. He'll receive a punishment from the team, not sure what. Doubt it's a game suspension if he does what the law says to do in court. 1 strike, everybody gets a second chance. No room for another however. Glad to see he's already apologized and spoken up. He's an 18 year old college kid who got caught. Praying he uses this as a chance to help others. Something tells me he will.

I think Dabo has to sit him for Auburn at least

May 4, 2012, 1:55 PM

Just for appearances sake. If he doesn't then it looks like he's going easy on Sammy becuase he's a great player. MB got sent hom and missed the ACCCG and OB becuase he was caught in the hotel smoking. Sammy got busted and arrested. he's got to be fair with his punishment even though this is Sammy's first offense and Bellamy was on his 2nd or 3rd.

I love Sammy to death but I think he has to sit our Auburn to make a statement.

Maybe, but Sammy has several months to do some

community service or whatever the court decides. Bellamy, and those accusations were never confirmed, if he did so, he did so the night before the game. Not much choice there

admittedly though, in Bellamy's case, he had been a malcontent throughout the year and compounded it by doing whatever he did before the ACCCG. I agree Watkins should be suspended for multiple games though if for no other reason than to prove a point to the team as a whole. I would rather lose the Auburn game without Sammy than to set up a different set of rules for Sammy and then lose the discipline of the entire team.

I agree. There is a statement that needs to be made to

preserve the integrity of Clemson University, the football team, and Dabo.

"Gamecocks aren’t ready to take college football by storm just yet. They’re not even ready to compete in their own state – Clemson will still own the territory. Gamecocks fans would be smart to keep their heads buried until that time. Avoid talking trash to a much better Clemson program.” -Dustin Tackett

Will Swofford add another week of suspension?***

I disagree with having to sit Sammy for the Auburn game

May 4, 2012, 2:03 PM

because of Bellamy and the Orange Bowl. It has to do with time and not games. Bellamy did his thing on the heels of the championship game and the orange bowl. Then he practiced in the spring after teams suspension. That was a matter of weeks. He paid the penalty and practiced as stated.

Watkins, on the other hand, has an entire summer to do punishment work and then if he does all he is required to do, then he plays. That shows no partiality. Penalty is paid.

I know the Coots will crow about it, but who cares what a bunch of yard birds think?

agree-would not be surprised if he does some sort of

public service announcement or work to caution others as well

The Coots will be have someone at every Clemson game...

...from here to the end of Sammy's Clemson career posting his mug shot. Kind of like the guys that always get that prime camera shot to display a sign of John 3:16 at sporting events.

Count on seeing Sammy's face in full mug regalia, just so we don't forget.

I also think he lost a handful of Heisman votes.

No suspension needed here Coach Dabo

May 4, 2012, 2:09 PM

Remember Michael Floyd of ND last year...two dui's in two years and he played in their opening game. Make the kid run the stairs at the stadium or do some volunteer work around Clemson !

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ND starting QB just arrested as well

May 4, 2012, 2:42 PM

we'll see with Sammy. I think a lot depends on how he handles this over the summer. I think he'll use it as an opportunity to warn and help others

Re: Sammy's charges

The ADD meds are somewhat of a joke because HUNDREDS if not thousands of CU students were taking ADD meds without a prescription this week...its called exam week. But there is definitely no excuse for the pot unless we learn of more information once Dabo gets the facts and makes a statement. This definitely sucks now, but perhaps this is the best thing that could have happened for Sammy in the long run. Everybody makes mistakes and maybe he just got his major one out of the way. I feel like he will learn his lesson and straighten up for the remainder of his career as a Tiger and beyond.

Star Status

May 4, 2012, 2:46 PM

Keep in mind CJ Spiller.
Im not worrying too much about this deal. Sammy will learn, and yes he will become a better man because of it..
But makes me even more impressed with guys like CJ who went his career being the shining star, and maintaining the star status throughout his clemson career, with no run ins with off the field issues...

Helps not to get caught

May 4, 2012, 2:49 PM

I'm not saying CJ was or was not perfect - I don't know.

But part of it is luck. Sammy did what at least 30% of Clemson students did this week. Doesn't make it right but he is not worse than the average student. He was unlucky enough to get caught.

Like the other students who got caught and were fortunate not to have their mug shot on national websites, he too will know he got his one and only chance and will have to be pristine the rest of college.
