Kansas in LittleJohn around 79 about this time of year I think.

I had NO idea what I was seeing in the Dire Straits. Mark Knopfler is a freak on a guitar.

(LJ is pretty close to the Football Field - for those of you that will call me a Moran) <img border=">

we lost to Kansas that night as I recall. ;

Seriously Knopfler is great. I saw them on the Calling Elvis tour.

Hard to get any better than Knopfler on a guitar! Dire straits was an extraordinary band! Their work along with Men at Work shined a bright light on Australian musicians!

Those were all excellent bands but the one that impressed me the most was The Moody Blues in the 70's
at the Columbia Coliseum acoustics were the bestever and their music transcended time. We were right up front about 5 rows back and when the concert was over as we exitied the venue our hearing was just as normal as before we enter the coliseum. The "Best" indoor concert we ever attended and the "Best" outdoor concert was in the early 70's at Red Rocks in Colorado listening to Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull with his infamous Flute at night under starlit skies.......just thrilling musical times to witness.

I am not sure I understand why Dire Straits shed a light on Australian Musicians. I believe they were all from England or the US.

Don’t have all the braincells that I had my freshman year, but almost positive Dire Straits didn’t open for Kansas in 79. Pretty sure it was Sniff ‘n’ the Tears. Doesn’t everyone remember Driving Seat?
What was also memorable from that concert was the a’holes who decided it would be a great idea to blow up a bunch of toilets. No more concerts in Littlejohn for the rest of my freshman and most of sophomore year.

blow up toilets?

that's gonna happen when you eat in Harcombe Dining Hall...

In the bathrooms in Fike was scrolled on the wall "Flush twice, it's a long way to Harcombe" back in the 80's.

And, never forget that Jimi Hendrix used to open for the Monkees. talk about weird...

Most people don’t know that Dire Straits wrote a song that Clemson football used to describe the job function of its transfer portal director staff position. Of cours I’m talking about “Money for Nothing”.

Knopfler is a hech of a talent but he's often so melancholy I have to step away for awhile.

Mark has made some great music since the end of Dire Straits.

like A Song for Sonny Liston. I like his smooth guitar style, like JJ Cale, without trying to impress with his speed for speed's sake.

My first and last concert in LJ was Def Leppard and Tesla in January of '88. Excellent show, but I thought Tesla was better tbh.
