GITT: Deaded musicians you saw in concert

Jul 19, 2017, 3:32 PM

I watched a Stevie Ray Vaughan doc on TV (which was great, but oddly ended in 1983?) and started thinking about the people I had seen play live who are gone. He was probably the first "big" musician that I remember dying after I saw him play. I have a pretty decent list, and I know I don't even know about a bunch, probably. Plus I'm sure I have forgotten a few. What about you?

Stevie Ray Vaughan
Prince
Johnny Cash
Merle
Waylon
George Jones
Bill Monroe
Gregg Allman
James Brown
Matt "Guitar" Murphy
BB King
Lemmy Kilmeister (Motorhead)
Ronnie James Dio
Layne Staley (Alice in Chains)
Steve Clark (Def Leppard)
The Ramones (ALL of them are deaded except Marky I think)
Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots)
Dave Prevette/Rod Price (Foghat)
Jackson Spires (Blackfoot)
Danny Joe Brown (Molly Hatchet)
Eddie Shaver (Shaver)
Country D*ck Montana (Beat Farmers)
Buren Fowler (drivin'n'cryin)
couple guys from Boston I can't remember their names (drummer, singer)

never saw Michael Jackson, never saw Bruce Hampton, never saw Kurt Cobain, never saw Chris Cornell, never saw Beastie Boys, or any of the murdered hip hop folks.

There's a bunch out there, and the list grows every year.

That's a rediculous list.

####, son.

Now I know why your name is Scooter. After all of those concerts, you probably can't afford a car.

1) I have been to a shitton of concerts starting

Jul 19, 2017, 3:56 PM

when I was a wee middle-school lad;

2) I lived in Nashville TN for 10 years where you could literally see a name act 7 nights a week.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I bet RH can beat me if he gives effort

Jul 19, 2017, 3:58 PM

and prolly a couple more "seasoned" live music lovers on here.

Richard Wright of Pink Floyd? Jerry Garcia? Roy Orbison? George Harrison? Bunch out there I never saw.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That one might require TOO much effort, LOL.

Jul 19, 2017, 4:39 PM

Plus, I'm not sure I want the sad of listing how many great artists are no longer with us.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Missed out on the benefit of living in a Nashville/Austin/

Jul 19, 2017, 4:44 PM [ in reply to 1) I have been to a shitton of concerts starting ]

Chicago/NYC/LA type music town, but did the festival thing for so many years where it was easy to squeeze in a lot of acts over a long weekend. My list based on Blues festivals attending alone would be somewhat disheartening.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Curiosity got me. Had to go to some lists just to help me

Jul 19, 2017, 5:08 PM

remember who I'd seen but the blues artists alone make me sad:

BB King
Albert King
Albert Collins
Son Seals
Etta Baker
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Gary Moore
Big Boy Henry
Junior Wells
Bo Diddley
Chuck Berry
Etta James
Pinetop Perkins
Bobby Bland
Johnny Winter
Lonnie Brooks
RL Burnside
KoKo Taylor
Hubert Sumlin
Clarence Gatemouth Brown
Jeff Healey
Junior Kimbrough
Johnny Copeland
Elizabeth Cotton
Son House
Carey Bell
James Cotton
Honeyboy Edwards
Sam Myers
Cootie Stark

Two that are jumping out to me are:

Scott Weiland

Glenn Frey

Whoever is deaded from the big Farm Aid concert in Columbia, cause there was alot of old musicians there that somehow didn't kill Hootie for us.

Thanks for the reminder

great list.

I'd love to do a list about the ones I DIDN'T see and wish to God I had.
Top of the list would be Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) and Freddie Mercury.
And a bunch of old blues guys like Muddy Waters, etc.
