Should DW go ahead and have surgery?

Dec 4, 2014, 1:18 PM

1st of all, insane DW played so well with a torn ACL, i don't think we lose to USC as long as that guy is under center(or in shotgun). HUGE emotional win that was very needed to close our regular season. My question is though, should we be playing him in the bowl game? yes he has proven he can compete but ACL surgery is a big one to come back from. While he obviously gives us a much better chance to win in a bowl game to start the off-season, is it worth him losing a month of rehab (which makes a HUGE difference) or possibly causing more damage to other ligaments?
My vote would of been he had surgery the beginning of this week. That gives him a much better chance to come back 100% next year, also gives Cole (sadly i had very high expectations for him coming into the season) one last chance with a month to give him the confidence he lacks. Rely on our defense to win a bowl game.
I doubt this is the popular mindset but just my thoughts.

Here's my thoughts:

-We just lost our OC who was the reason behind our offensive success the last 4 years and a big reason for our recruiting 4 and 5 star kids on offense
-DW looked fine vs SC and as long as they continue to use him smart he should be fine
-if the docs think it's ok then he should play
-if DW thinks it's ok he should play

-IT IS VERY IMPORTANT, that we score and score big in our bowl game to solidify the recruits who are waiting and watching to see if the Clemson offense falls on its face.

Could not agree with this more....

We definitely need Watson ready to go 100% at the beginning of next year, BUT, we definitely need to put up tons of points in the bowl game to send a message to recruits that the system you were promised to play in is alive and well, and will be when you get here. Also call me greedy, but I want the 10th win. Without Watson, win # 10 ain't happening.

regardless of when the surgery is, he will not be available for the Spring. His return will be sometime in the Summer or Fall Camp.

I say if he can't hurt it worse and it does not allow him to return for the Spring then let him play the bowl game.

Make it idjit proof and someone will make a better idjit.

i'm ok with him playing the bowl game....however........

i wouldn't mind him getting it over and done with as soon as possible........not for coming back earlier necessarily but in case there was a "set back" of some kind.......ie Charon Peake.

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have a month buffer for that kind of thing.

but like we've all said there's zero chance of winning the bowl game without him......we beat south carolina so i'm good for the year.........a bowl loss isn't gonna hurt me.

I have no strong opinions on this.

It's really Watson's decision to make, and I hope he's doing what's best for him. With that being said, if I had a torn ACL, I would want to fix that thing ASAP.
