Hey Obed® or prolly CT88 or Murc or other people with more mechanical knowledge than me.

Watch this.

When I hit wide open throttle, the throttle jumps, then settles a bit lower. Should it settle lower than where it initially jumps to? Does that make sense?

You made any changes to it lately?

If I'm understanding the issue correctly, WOT starts out at a certain RPM, and then becomes a lower RPM, even though you didn't change the fact that you were giving it full throttle?

Seems to me like it would be a possibly clogged jet or an issue with the adjustment on your secondary, but my experience with carbs is from only learning what I've had to learn to get by. I'm not an expert.

I prob need to test it on the water

I can use my hand and make it run higher rpms than my throttle.

Not sure if it has always been that way. I recently lost 2 mph which I assumed to be due to a gouged wear ring. My new wear rings are arriving today. If I'm still 2 mph short, then I'm assuming something wrong with the control module to throttle

It's a carbed engine with a drive by wire throttle?

That's crazy.

It has a joystick

for electric steering and throttle, yes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gotcha. That certainly would introduce an additional point of failure.

if you haven't touched the carb and it was running perfectly before AND it wasn't the electric throttle actuator, my first course of action would be to pull the carb and clean the shidd out of it without touching the adjustment screws.

After I run it with the new wear ring, right?

I will prob ask the expert too before I do something like that.

I wasn't sure if this was a simple "of course the throttle should stay in the same position if you are running wide open you idiot".

Yes, it should definitely stay constant. Is this an engine that runs a prop or

an impeller?

I'm currently trying to fix a jet ski we have and it's insane that I can get the carb settings and idle perfect on land but it changes completely when it's under load in the water.

Impeller, it's a jet kayak

I assumed I lost 2 mph due to sucking up a rock and damaging

the wear ring.

Then a few weeks ago I charged the battery and got it running and noticed this little throttle situation that may or may not be a thing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

oh yeah you said the 2mph.

My bad. Based on my inability to get a carbed jet ski running perfectly, I am not the wizard you seek. Just lose 15 pounds and spray some teflon on the hull, and leave the engine alone.

Working on it, but we pulled another pie out of the freezer yesterday***

I've had similar problems on outboard engines.

Turned out in both cases I had low compression in at least one cylinder. Both required rebuild/sleeves/partial rebuild.
