And I think I figured out why he got Twitter so wrong, when all of his other plays he got so right. To caveat, I think Musk's purchase of Twitter was a bad idea in and of itself, primarily because it is almost exclusively a social platform and nothing else. Its revenue model is almost exclusively display ads. A change in public taste would kill it instantly, leaving nothing behind except whatever user data is worth. It would be a bad decision for anyone, not just Musk. But, it was especially bad for Musk, and here is why.
Musk has Asperger's, and if he's on the spectrum, we can assume he has issues with processing/understanding human emotion. This was somewhat confirmed by his biographer, who straight up said Musk "doesn't have empathy." For Tesla, SpaceX, and the rest, this wasn't a problem. It's all math, physics, and problem solving. It could all be worked out on paper. This is the world that Elon can process and understand.
Twitter was a completely different ballgame. Everything about Twitter is human emotion and behavior. To some degree, like within psychology and sociology, there is a science to it, but it is, as a social platform, a byproduct of just how effing weird/awful humans are. We are illogical creatures, and our weirdness is amplified on social media. This was not Elon's strength. And, I think he made decisions for the company, or expected users to act in predictable ways with those decisions, that did not pan out. I can't really point to anything in particular, except maybe doing away with content moderation expecting users to self-police (a noble and understandable theory, but not one that has ever been proven on social media), but in general, this is the working theory I have.

I am not a lib by any stretch of the imagination. I am not a fan of Elon Musk either though. Really, I think he’s becoming a bit of a clown. He is what he portrays himself as. A kid born with money to spend, he spent it wisely by making smart investments, he foolishly made a name for himself by being a bragger about his investments and wealth. People started watching. And now they realize that he’s not as genius as his investments show. It should be noted that I’ve never opened a Twitter account, I will only buy an electric vehicle when I think it’s a valuable and wise investment or until the government forces me to, and I am predisposed to not liking frat boy rich ######. Elon Musk was the picture of left wing electric vehicle takeover until he shunned government shutdown during Covid. He’s playing both sides of the field. And his fanboys can’t see the forest for the trees.

One would think someone standing up to them, in whatever way possible, would be appreciated even if you don't care for him otherwise.
