I'm seeing some people on TNET have created a narrative that Clemson needs NC State to lose the championship game. This is inaccurate. Clemson's tournament bid should be safe regardless of what happens in the ACC title game. The ACC will probably end up getting either 4 or 5 teams into the tournament, and Clemson sits firmly in the number three position among those teams. UNC, Duke, and Clemson (in that order) all appear to be locks. The teams that will have to sweat it out are Virginia and Pitt, both of whom are right on the bubble. Wake is also still in the conversation, but it's highly unlikely they'll make it in at this point. The bottom line is, even if NC State were to ###### the fourth ACC bid, that would come at the expense of either Virginia or Pitt, not Clemson. And it's still very much possible that five ACC teams could get in, meaning that NC State's presence wouldn't necessarily prevent Virginia (or maybe Pitt) from making the tournament.
