From the contract extension press articles: Termination in contract year 5/1/23 4/30/24: $85,000 per month remaining Make change prior to April 30th... $85K x 24 = $2,040,000 If after April 30th and before end of next season, $125K x months remaining max 24 months = $3 million
Termination in contract year 5/1/24 – 4/30/25: $125,000 per month remaining Fire at end of next season prior to April 30, 2025 = $125K x 12 means $1.5 million
Termination in contract year 5/1/25 – 4/30/26: $250,000 per month remaining I would not expect any coach in today's world to go into the last year without a contract for more years. Thus, I think this termination option is irrelevant.
The next few weeks are going to be very interesting for Clemson Basketball.
Next year, Clemson MBB should be average at best, but probably just bad because losing PJ, JG3 and Jack Clark. Chase H could come back. But if he leaves then there is no one besides Ian S. who exhibited any consistency, especially on offense. RJ Godfrey might be considered, but he would be #2.
Next year, guard play would be expected to be less, unless we somehow landed studs with the Freshmen. (Doubtful because we never have). Alex H might be able to stick around, but he has never really been a consistent performer after all these years.
So Neff has some thinking to do. Max $3 million buyout, might be able to save around $1 million if change is made prior to April 30, 2024. Could save $1.5 million if change is made April 29, 2025.
None of it should really impact the decision. The decision should be solely based on does AD Neff think that Coach BB can improve, strengthen, grow and advance the Clemson basketball program?
My answer is No. He has done all he can and taken it as far as he could in 14 years. Had some very memorable experiences and slightly above average success when compared to the history of Clemson basketball.
But what does Neff and the leadership of Clemson Athletics want for the future of Clemson basketball?
The next few weeks and couple of months will speak loudly to that. I am very curious.
at this point. Nobody knew JG or JC were going to be on the roster for this year. Chase if he stays has to improve/shoot better. We did RS a couple guys and have the 3 signees coming in that look good - hopefully they stick whether there is a coaching change or not. I would expect to see some others hit the TP and us to pick-up a couple TP guys like we usually do in basketball. I would hope those are impact guys especially at guard.
No way to know how we will stack against others until we know the roster which we are a few months away. Others rosters will be changing significantly as well - this isn't 1985.
