This is what happens when more is put into the athlete

than the student part. The NCAA has turned its head and let this union crap go too far. The individual schools should put a muzzle on coaches and ads who favor this.

Schools sold out long ago,

admitting students who, on academic merits, wouldn't be able to sniff their standards, but they are allowed to be "students" so that they can win them football/basketball games.

sad but true

The NCAA and a number of schools have created the current climate.

They should have addressed it sooner.

Now I'm not saying play the players IS the answer. But come on, let the guys make some money. Was there anything really morally wrong with Johnny Football getting paid to sign some stuff? What was wrong with the Ohio State guys getting something in exchange for their property?

I agree to this to an extent. Then

we have boosters paying $$ for high profile players to come to school. It will have turned full circle when the behavior like that that CREATED the "amateur" rules to begin with is the result of relaxing those rules. It's such a gray area though, to say a player can't receive money for THEIR OWN IMAGE. Maybe disqualify them as amateurs as soon as it is proven that they receive payment.

That's the only thing I can see happening. Disqualify them and remove them from the team.

Could you imagine if that kind of rule were in place before Johnny Football or Clowney did their things? What would have happened? I think it's fair, though.

It would take a bunch of extra compliance people, which I

am not a fan of. It wouldn't be terribly difficult after the rules were established though. Maybe something along the lines that ever jersey with a number has to have a name on it. A percentage of the sale of that jersey goes to the player. Allow autograph sessions in campus facilities only, restrict the dollar amount that can be charged then have the school cut checks later so there is some paper trail, then you audit the accounts.

them don't deserve to be there anyways. I have never been in favor of an undeserving student taking up space while a kid who tries and is smarter can not get in school.

So you would like to end college football

Mar 27, 2014, 4:02 PM

and men's college basketball because most of the athletes wouldn't get into the schools they play for if they weren't athletes? If so, I guess this has been bothering you for a long time since that's the way it has worked for decades.
