Was on the ball when they hired Coach Rittman. It’s unbelievable what that guy has done is a very short time. I can’t recall a single game where the good girls played poorly.

Agreed he is a great coach and program builder. I would also say he had a lot of luck such as finding an unheralded player like Cagle

Honest question - Was she unheralded? I thought for some reason she was pretty highly regarded coming out of high school.

and didn’t play High School Softball . . . She is an excellent example of homeschooling!!! She did however play Travel Ball. This is where she became noticed.
Getting back on track . . . Coach Rittman is an excellent energetic coach that not only knows the game but knows how to keep all members involved and ready to share their abilities . . . There could not have been a better hire!!!

Valerie already had a connection with Kyle Jamieson, Clemson's associate head coach, from his days as coach at Furman. He had recruited her.

Home schooled so no HS ball. Originally committed to the softball powerhouse Delaware which is why I say she was unheralded.
From an On3 story: Cagle eventually worked her way into being a Division I level player, committing to Delaware in December of 2016.

I wonder if Rittman knows anything about basketball? Men or women? Asking for a friend.

The way they brought him in nearly 3 years before starting the program. I think he was here at least two years before we ever played a game. So he literally built this program from scratch and helped design the stadium. That’s a rare opportunity at a school like Clemson that makes the kind of commitment we did with that level of resources.
It really makes you wonder how he can be that successful that quickly, but we still can’t put together a competitive basketball program!

Its not really a mystery. Looking across the college sports landscape it is common for schools to be good in some sports and not so much in others. Investment by the university, fan support and natural recruiting areas are some of the things which impact the success of a particular sport. In the case of softball it was a natural fit. We built a first class facility, hired a top notch coach, fans are fully supportive and the southeast is a hot bed for recruiting. Basketball has none of these things plus the uphill climb recruiting without paying AAU handlers or getting the support of shoe companies.

You speak with forked tongue. Your record has been skipping in the same tune for 12.7 years.
Wait, are you saying we need a better basketball coach?!
