you die by the transfer portal. Michigan State did as well but TCU obviously is doing it on a much grander scale (FSU better pay attention to this because they are going all in on it. Not going to end well for them regardless of how it looks on paper. Ask A&M how winning on paper has done for them....). There is a trend now with teams that go all-in with the portal. Their rosters have very little depth to them.
This is another reason why you should still have to wait a year if you transfer (unless a coach is fired or you are a graduate) before you can play.

Tcu kinda has to lean into the portal more. They understand they're not recruiting against the big boys. Fsu has recruited way better than tcu. Don't think you can draw conclusions from one game about the portal in general. Same with mich st. They can't compete with recruiting. Good on both for doing what they had... but this isn't an indicator of portal use imo.

Totally agree cool. We could really use some proven good players at cornerback, at wide receiver, linebacker and OL.
BUT….The ultimate issue again comes back to roster management. Without mentioning names, there are too many players on this team that have no business being on scholarship at an elite program Clemson. That doesn’t mean you have no three star type of players… Of course you take your fair share of those based on evaluation. But Too often, through totally self inflicted mistakes, we resort to offering players when we don’t get our top targets. We are also too thin in the OL room…. To be clear, recruiting at an elite level eliminates the need to use the portal that much ….but not entirely…. Not with this many kids leaving via the portal
Dabo is making changes…… You will see more of that later this spring. But we are now in catch-up mode due primarily to stubbornness.
The result of this game tonight will probably actually help us in the long term.

You’ve already seen it with summer official visits. Something Dabo said he would never do. You will also see it by us offering more kids. We don’t need to offer 300 kids like Alabama or Georgia do…… But we need to increase the amount we offer from the very very low amount of 70 to 80 that we typically do. Offering that little, statistically, will expose you when you don’t land your top target. It’s a simple change, and it should’ve happened a few years earlier in retrospect..

Well, they were 5-7 last year, and then the National Championship game the next year so I wouldn't say the portal hurt them that much...
