Especially up here in Northeast Ohio, which is both mobbed up and has a bunch of fairly delipidated ports that connect to the Great Lakes and in turn the rest of the world.
There's a ton of human trafficking up this way. There was one boat they busted awhile back that was basically doing a Triangle Trade of crime...they were bringing trafficked girls from Eastern Europe and Asia in, and bringing the platinum from stolen catalytic converters out. My own catalytic converter may have well been on that boat. Some seriously determined spidermonkey somehow crawled under my car during the Blizzard of '21 - when something like 20+ inches of snow came down in one night - and cut out my catalytic converter, and the catalytic converters of about thirty or so other cars in my neighborhood, all in one night. Which was impressive, even if I do see red every time I think about it.
Same old story. The girls are Illegal, and usually wired to the gills on something addictive, so they're afraid to go to the cops. It's incredibly ugly...and it's assuredly not a new thing.

Has anybody here claimed human trafficking isn't an actual problem?
Here's another non-conspiracy: your hero, Tim Ballard of OUR, is a sexually harrassing creep, and his former organization is full of untrained tourists operating with questionable motives. It's roughly the same as holding up Trump as some sort of champion of the military.
