Tennessee

4

Jul 19, 2023, 8:32 PM

Tennessee seems to be getting some recruits that we used to get. It reminds me of the beginning of their surge under fat Fulmer on their road to a national championship. Clearly they are cheating but what are we going to do?

Us oldtimers remember Shaun Ellis (NFL Top 15 Draft pick) who was from Anderson who they lured away from us probably in much the same way they are doing now. The rumor is that he was visibly upset on signing day inking for the Vols.

I am not saying the sky is falling but we need to do a better job of keeping the Tennessee, UNC, and some degree the Chickens of the world from getting who we want.

How we do against those three schools in head-to-head recruiting seems to be a huge factor in determining the talent of our team historically.

Not at all buying the Vol Hype.

Let's see what they can do this year. Gotta beat teams they never beat before, then I'll believe they are even worthy of worry on the recruiting trail long term.

They getting those players at a cost to their culture. 200 recruiting violations means you have a culture of cheating. Personally I'll be happy with who we get... I'll sleep better at night knowing we're not like Tennessee or Georgia.
Go Tigers!!!

Shaun Ellis was a great person / player

We would have taken any of these recruits that Tennessee is beating us out on.

Like I said, sky is not falling. We just need to figure out a way to start getting these recruits again.

It all starts with a successful offensive showing this year!

Go Tigers!

Ha. I would sleep alright with a bunch of 5 stars knowing that the NCAA has no real power and lets you get away with it now.

Ellis was just one of the blue chippers they took from the state under Fulmer's dirty regime and this trend was not limited to the West era as it continued during TB's early years—

Seems like as we started keeping these type of players

Jul 20, 2023, 8:52 AM

away from them and FSU that we started to improve. Also, getting players out of NC that we wanted.

It’s pretty simple: top receivers want to play in a dynamic offense that makes them look dynamic and they can use their skills in. Under Heupel Tennessee has had a dynamic passing game. We have been pathetic in the passing game the last two years (for one obvious reason) and very vanilla going back to 2020 and a little of 2019. We got absolutely stale under Elliott and cratered under DJ. Nobody wants any part of that so Mr Riley can set things back in motion this season. And keep the play sheet away from Dabo for maximum returns.

"Tennessee seems to be getting some recruits that we used to get."

For clarity purposes, "Used to get" implies the era before NIL.

You are not wrong. Our rise coincided with the decline of Tennessee and for a while they were poaching some good players from us here in SC. Seems these are more national recruits but still kids we really wanted. Also agree sky is not falling whatsoever but Tennessee Is back recruiting well regardless of how they are doing it. Our region (Georgia, Tenn, FSU, and even SC)are all recruiting at a high (or higher) level which is direct competition for our Tigers. That said, we are still doing well but it’s harder to land them right now.

When a team whips your butt as Tenn did in December, there is a recruiting impact. Clemson, for a variety of well-documented reasons, has played soft the past two years. Looking for that to change in 2023.
