Haven't heard the "book was better" people this time around.

That's always a popular thing when these kinds of movies are released. When The Da Vinci Code came out people couldn't shut up about the book.

I saw the movie this week and it’s really good. I’m not a reader so I didn’t know anything about the story before the movie. A lady behind us said it was better than the book.

Thanks so much for that positive review. Critics have said that the movie was awful and nothing like the book. Shows you how much critics know!

Part of it was filmed where I live in Madisonville, La literally 10 minutes from my house.

Usually the critics and the audience usually somewhat agree. This is the widest margin I have ever seen.

I generally agree with the critics. They are usually fairly close to the audience. Maybe 80% critics and audience maybe 90%. 34% to 96% is wild. My guess is that critics read the book and much of the audience did not. I have not read the book so I imagine I will like the movie.

For the book or the movie you have to be willing totally

“suspend disbelief” because the entire thing is undeniably implausible.
And not on a fantasy even like “Indiana Jones” or “Star Wars”, but on a just plain everyday common sense level where certain things would never ever happen in real life situations, but they make a good story if you overlook the fact.
I know many love the book and are similarly predisposed to love the movie and that’s fine, but when writing fiction (unless it’s science fiction) some adherence to reality should be observed.
That much said ... it’s a great story for a certain audience.
Go for it y’all!!

What did you think of Forest Gump? There were parts of it I found hard to believe. Never seen anyone reassemble their rifle that fast.

What was unbelievable about Forrest Gump? Maybe your eyes couldn't adjust to the speed of the ping pong balls?

Would “The Green Mile” be a more accurate comparison then? I haven’t seen the movie or read the book.

“Green Mile” deals in the super-natural, while “Crawdads”

deals in the natural world in an implausible way.
“Forrest Gump” aims at humor while addressing several serious topics, “Green Mile” focuses on faith in a higher power to make its point.
“Crawdads” wants us to believe a lone small female child could survive all alone in the wilderness from a very young age, through puberty, into young adulthood with no guidance or supervision. Her hair is always trimmed neatly and clean ... And on a lesser note, they also want you to believe people on the NC coast would routinely drive to Asheville to pick up groceries and supplies.
So, the required suspension of disbelief is not quite the same as “Gump” or “Green Mile” ... just my personal observation and opinion. Lots of people love both the book and the movie.

Yep agree. A willing suspension of belief is necessary , however, true of many movies and books. Entertainment that’s well done.

The movie was very similar to book. I'd give 4*'s to both. The book was somewhat more plausible than the movie. Nice movie to watch with your significant other.

It made me vomit when my wife tricked me into going to it. I thought it was going to be about Louisiana cuisine or something.

When will it be on tv. Haven’t set foot in a theater since 1983. Just don’t like going and besides that my popcorn and drinks are cheaper at home and if I need to go to the bathroom I want be disturbing anyone. My kids say I so cheap that I complain if I spend a dime. Now my wife goes with the grandkids but I prefer to stay home.
