We've learned that the White House employs three calligraphers, who cumulatively earn $277,000 a year. The Environmental Protection Agency gave $141,000 to fund a Chinese study on swine manure. Part of a $325,000 National Science Foundation outlay went to building a robotic squirrel.
The government gave a $3,700 grant to build a miniature street in West Virginia—out of Legos. It shelled out $500,000 to support specialty shampoo products for cats and dogs. A San Diego outfit got $10,000 for trolley dancing. The feds last year held 894 conferences that each cost more than $100,000—$340 million altogether. But Mr. Obama is too broke to let American kids look around the White House.

they get everything they want/need for free. they don't work. they whine all the time. they don't appreciate much. and they don't really contribute a whole lot around the house. they certainly don't pay any bills.

This is silly, if we named all the taxpayer money wasted on crazy things by the US government over the past 50 years(by Democratic and Republican Presidents) we could be here all day. Plus a large amount of these wastes have nothing to do with the President except they are hidden in the budget bills that he signs and are inserted by members of Congress for their own districts(Democrats and Republicans) as "pork barrel" spending.

I am never okay with waste and having been a state employee for 25+ years and dealing with many state agencies, I've seen more wasted taxpayer money than you will ever see. I just hate the pot calling the kettle black nature of this stupid statement. Republicans waste just as much money as Democrats, in my time in state maybe more or at least less effectively.

Perhaps I should explain effective waste. The Democrats would carry a full complement of WORKERS and hire extra WORKERS so the load would be shared around, and people would not be stretched to the limits trying to cover people out sick and taking vacation. WORKERS were happier, stayed longer, and got raises. Management usually was promoted from within and knew their jobs and would help in times of extra workload and personnel shortages. Republicans would cut out extra WORKERS, sometimes even necessary workers, making it harder to get time off, harder to cover when people were sick, just generally harder to get the job done. But it wouldn't be to save money, they would hire extra MANAGERS , usually without any knowledge of the job and without urge to learn it or help out since they were somebody's buddy-buddy and get rid of the knowledgeable manager to replace him with a higher paid political schmooz who was almost never on site or was locked in his office paying politics. Oh and hire a high paid consultant who made more than the WORKERS for 45 minutes of work every six months advising on a job he knew nothing about and didn't spend long enough to find out. Oh, and the only raises were to management, so the WORKERS were unhappy , short-timers, and never saw raises in spite of extra workload. Oh, and the budgets were not cut, they were expanded to cover the more management and consultants higher pay than the actual WORKERS they cut out.

Funny thing I don't remember a Pelosi working for SC state government. I do think if the State were forced to publish a list of relatives of the Legislature, agency heads, Governor's staff, and Cabinet members employed by state government, their salaries versus others of their tenure, and their positions job requirements versus others of their grade, the average South Carolinian would throw up when they read it and vote 80% of the incumbent rascals out.
