So what's your border solution?
Feb 6, 2024, 8:16 AM
|
|
Many have expressed their displeasure with the defeated bipartisan border legislation, so what's your solution?
That solution can't be a wall because that was proven wasteful and ineffective (they cut right through it). And don't say shooting them--I know some of you are itching for that really badly, but ask your psychiatrist why that's not going to happen.
Yeah, the border's a disaster. Yeah, Biden admin sucks at policing it. We know these facts. Tell us what the fix is.

Walls work if you police them and font allow illegals/cartels to cut thru them. Razor wire works.
To answer your question...shut it down

More in-depth conversations will follow once the yearbook is finished.
Not a wall this size and what it would cost to have the manpower to police it.
This ain't the Berlin Wall.

It would cost a fraction of what we #### away in any other number of areas. Crying about not being able to afford it is the most disingenuous argument of them all.

into CBP agents instead and the Southern border can easily be monitored and covered. Not all wall's are equal - some are very effective and some ain't but in general obstacles require surveilling and a Southern border wall is no different. The military and three letter agencies are full of this technology which ain't new. The military has used ground based human radar to great effectiveness since I was a 2LT planning for the Russian hordes coming across the Fulda Gap. I can only imagine what it is capable of now....
But the bigger point ain't about a wall and how to surveil/man it - instead it is how we have got to get to a place where illegal border crossing is not rewarded with being allowed to stay in the USA. The masses of illegals come because they know that illegally crossing the US border means nothing in real terms of them not being allowed to enter and stay in the USA. Until the USA has a ZERO tolerance for illegal border crossing to where non-citizens caught entering illegally are detained and immediately sent back to their country of origin on the first thing smoking - this problem ain't gonna be solved.
What we have is a whole political party (Democrats) that supports/encourages this illegal border activity with portions of the other party (Republicans) with their hands in the US Chamber of Commerce's pockets who also support this illegal border activity. Each wants this illegal activity to continue for their own gain while most of us that are citizens simply want it to stop.
All of Congress took an oath to uphold the Constitution and our laws so there shouldn't even be a debate or negotiation over acceptable numbers of illegal alien entry into the USA because NONE of it is lawful. The law should simply be - anyone caught coming into/being in the USA illegally is immediately detained and sent back to their county of origin as soon as possible.
Instead, we are at a place where our border security is being "negotiated" over how much unlawful activity is to be allowed and worse, legitimized, in a DC swamp weasel worded, loopholed to the nth degree piece of garbage legislation that ultimately does nothing to secure our border. I find the position that a certain level of illegal immigration is "acceptable" to be absolutely abhorrent but unfortunately typical of the lunacy we have in Congress.

Immediate deportation of those caught here illegally

Zero benefits to illegals, no anchor babies.
Immigrants can apply for citizenship just like they do for every other country on the planet.
Work visas are generous but overstaying illegally means you never get one again.
Asylum can only be claimed by neighboring countries. You can’t travel from the Middle East and claim asylum (that’s not how it works).
Maybe we treat them like they broke federal laws.

as I read it, Pubs wouldn't consider Ukraine unless had border security. I'd say different than writing a border security proposal then stuffing it with Ukraine aid.
Shouldn't have been called the border security law, should've been the Ukraine aid law with some border security thrown in

to a country that's already "misplaced" millions. In a war that's at a complete stalemate. $60 billion is what we spend in a year to fund the entire branch of Marines.
This bill has nothing to do with the border crisis it's just throwing something at it so that they can say look we tried to pass a border bill. The uniparty is just ITCHING for a good war. It's so frustrating.

You have to tie them together, or else you pass border security and then the pubs move the goal posts and still refuse aid to Ukraine.

that is why we have elected officials.
They will have to answer to their votes at some point, if their constituents want Ukraine aid and they don't vote for it, well then....., but should be in its own bill, voted on in its own merits
Each bill should be voted on on its main intentions, and possibly any tangential ramifications. I know will never happen.

Send illegal crosses back to their countries...
1
Feb 6, 2024, 8:33 AM

Re-open the ICE facilities (if they haven't been sold already) that the Biden Admin has closed. Use those to house, process and then return illegal immigrants.
Make legal immigration much easier and cheaper. Reform the process to come here so that it is quicker (weeks/months instead of years) and remove the bulk of the costs, lawyers, and red tape that makes it ridiculous now.
For the illegal crosses, ship them back to where they came from. Incentivize legal immigration, make deterrents to illegal immigration.

This is contributed without having read any of the above … so it’s pure … and hopefully will be considered sensible.
First we need to fund the matter adequately.
At some distance from the border (100 miles-ish) we need to establish sizable processing centers. Doing this gets the immigrants away from the border, so gives those who live there a break from the perpetual problem … which they should not have to be forced to live with.
All/every migrant would be met, afforded immediate needs (water mostly) and a bus seat. Shuttle busses would deposit them every two hours … adjust the frequency on a site by site basis.
Each processing center would be staffed with beaucoup judges (funding) so that processing would proceed expeditiously. No more would we allow folks to enter and “promise” to return to see a judge in three years or whatever the delay is.
Those rejected would be escorted back to the border. The system would have them and reason for rejection recorded so the tendency to return and try again would be minimized.
Those accepted would be allowed to go in peace. No, I don’t know what they would then do. Some would find a Home Depot and gather each day for work. Some would have family to join. Some would … do what they thought they would do when they started their journey.

So, I see some feasible solutions (or steps in the right direction)

-Deport, deport, deport (yes, I agree here). Okay. But how do we do it and keep them from coming back? -Reallocate government officials. I don't think IRS solves that but I say cut the IRS guys and hire real manpower. -National Guard, yes. Full Army, no, that would be bad for our troops. -I actually agree with all that Keowee said--for once. See what happens when you actually have a real discussion, Keowee? -Make legal immigration much easier and cheaper. Absolutely. -From Tiggity, Ban the international wire transfers that funnel billions of our dollars back to mexicoguatemalahonduraselsalvadorvenezuela -What WillYumYum said.
Dumbest idea of the thread: Hippoes.
Okay. So good ideas. How do we get our #### government to do it?

Ah, I see...the only solutions you had were to build and wall or to shoot them. You couldn't think of anything else? You seem to have a lot of free time so I'm surprised you missed these ideas. BTW, these ideas have been around for a very long time and I don't take credit for them but will post them since you missed them.
Remove the incentives. Many will not want to come here. Many of the ones here will self deport.
1. No gubermint benefits to those hear illegally. Financial, housing, health, etc., etc. 2. If caught in the USA illegally forfeiture of any property including money. 3. No bank transfer or wiring of money in or out of the country without verification of being here legally. 4. No automatic grant of citizenship by being born on US soil/territory unless at least one parent is a US citizen; no "anchor babies". 5. No path to US citizenship if did not enter the country legally. 6. Deportation and fines. 7. Fine those who knowingly hire/pay those here illegally.
In addition.
1.Build/enhance walls/barriers at appropriate places that create choke point (that's where the hippos/alligators or border agents will be mostly concentrated. 2. Create a system to allow "guest" workers to enter the country for specific needs. This would go well beyond H1B for "specialized" workers to include pretty much any type of work we need help with. It could include manual laborers.
There's are more ideas out there but that's a quick list to start.

If you thought this is what I was arguing or offering as real solutions, you fail at reading comprehension and I'm not even going to bother myself with the rest of your post. Go back, get an understanding of what I said, say "oops, my bad," and then I'll give the rest of your post a go.

Make people who require gov assistance (food stamps , government housing, etc) man the wall. Have a person every 10’ with water cannon, taser, bear spray or some non lethal deterrrent. These new gov employees would be behind a razor wire fence and if anyone got past them they would lose gov assistance.

a metaphorical financial wall will. Go after the employers and, like tiggity said, the money transfers and watch as illegal immigration slows to a crawl.
The problem (as you and Tiggity have pointed out) is that illegal immigration serves a genuine economic purpose. Even expanding legal immigration/work permits will probably not work since much of the economic benefit of illegal immigration is paying them under minimum wage (exploitation).

You can't enter without due process, and get to stay. If you enter illegally and are caught, you are immediately deported. Use force as required. This is not the least bit complicated.
