I think I’ve made my own position about the T’s very clear by now.
I know if you look at news or whatever it’ll make you think this stuff is everywhere, but have you actually encountered it in your own life? I’ve come across maybe 3 or 4 trans people in the healthcare system over the years, and it’s a little odd and awkward, but you just do your job and life goes on. Ive never had someone correct their pronouns or accuse me of misgendering or being a bigot or anything like that in real life. News and the internet get people whipped up into a tizzy over these small little things that you’d otherwise never know about, a woke kindergarten being a good example

Nobody is forcing you to do so. The government can't violate your free speech, and if you want to call a him a her or vice versa, you're free to do so. If the him/her wants to get mad at you for calling them the wrong name accidentally or intentionally, that's a him/her problem, not a you problem (although it takes essentially no effort to adjust how you refer to another person). Your private employer? Well, they may have certain rules that you're obliged to follow to maintain employment, or they may not--that's between you and your employer.
Basically, you're still free to be as much of an asshole as you like, and the only entity that can possibly deter you from being an asshole is your employer, but you still have a choice (and this isn't some new development with the rise of transgendered people).

It's a really good thing we're paying more attention to the nuances of consent, finally holding rapists like Weinstein accountable, recognizing and accepting problems of race within the justice system, making it easier for queer people to be true to themselves and treating them with respect and dignity.
The problem is this "middle ground" isn't useful politically, so of course the Left weaponized it as a cudgel to generate controversy, which generates donations and political power. And this, of course, provoked an equally insidious reaction on the Right.
Drag Queen Story Hour is a perfect example. Yes, it is protected speech and if you don't like it you shouldn't care about it happening, but in what world does it advance any semblance of tolerance/respect for the queer community by using children as pawns in a much larger game?
The Left has done this twice now. Things were trending really well after the Obergefell decision. Gay acceptance was more or less covertly heading into the mainstream, which probably meant the Left feared it wasn't going to be a wedge issue for them any longer, and then started going nuts with what they were pushing, which really only impacted a sliver of a sliver of a sliver of people. In doing so, they set back the "gay agenda" decades.
The same thing happened with BLM. Justice reform at the state level was literally being led by Republicans, such as in Texas and Florida, and we were on the cusp on some very real and very important reforms. It's how we got the First Step Act from Trump -- which was truly historic, and didn't come from Democrats even when the had control off Congress and the White House. But then the George Floyd protests happened, and BLM with their "defund the police and no we are not talking in hyperboles" made justice reform deadly toxic on the right. There is no hope for bipartisan work now on justice reform, and it is 100% due to the Left's penchant for extremism.
HOWEVER, the moral of the story is, the heart of what these movements/issues represent is still good, even if the larger movements have become toxic.

Another example of how the 5% on either side of the spectrum end up with the loudest megaphones, because outrage generates outrage dollars in politics. You just hope that the largest part of the bellcurve of mostly rational people in the middle are smart enough to understand this. I'm becoming increasingly concerned that this isn't the case.

My concern is more with my kids being exposed to these lunatics, and impacting their mental wellbeing. We saw mass psychosis during covid, I think it's important to not let this nonsense take hold. Ignoring it is how we got dudes using the girls restrooms/locker rooms and competing against them in sports like it's totally OK and normal. If we had none of that nobody would care. In fact, nobody DID care until they started demanding everyone else go along with their delusions, which is my point.

There were undeniably some detrimental effects of Covid lockdowns, even if it didn't last that long for schools. Masking had negative impacts as well. But mass psychosis? That's a bit hyperbolic.
My daughters are in 5th and 7th grades. We've heard reports of a handful of kids (like, a couple in both of those grades combined) who claim to be bisexual, and I suspect these few kids are influenced largely by social media making these things cool, which is a legitimate concern. I also doubt these kids really know much on the topic an yway, as 5th graders almost defintely aren't sexually active, and while it's possible in 7th grade, it's certainly not rampant.
Wouldn't you think that for as pervasive and insidious as the gay and trans agendas are, particularly for school-aged children, we'd be seeing a rash of kids questioning their sexuality and genders? And yet...here we are.

People < 23 years old? Yeah, that's not going to move the needle much for me, dawg.
If you have the breakdown of LGBTQ for that group, I'd love to see it, but I'm pretty certain the large majority of it is kids claiming to be bisexual, and a slightly smaller group that are or claim to be gay/lesbian. Put me in the camp that these figures occur because those labels are far more socially acceptable than they were 20 years ago for HS and college kids. The sliver of that 20.8% that identify as transgendered, while not neglibible, is much smaller (again, I'm interested in the actual breakdown numbers, and willing to be proven wrong). There might be incrementally more young people experimenting with same sex trysts, but a whole lot of those people also existed in Gen X and Millennials who would have answered that question with a "NO" 20 years ago. And further, I'd surmise that many or most of those will wander back to identifying as plain old heterosexuals as they get older.
The cool/trendy/TikTok/social media factor definitely has a part in this, probably even the majority of it, but I'd be willing to bet most of that percentage is kids running with the latest fad, much like clothing or bands or anything else.

I told you what I think that 20.8% statistic consisted of, and why it doesn't alarm me like it does you. You have millenial-aged kids, in HS and college (correct me if I'm wrong), and presumably, you speak to them reasonably regularly about their social lives. Are they surrounded by LGBTQ people? Are those people trying to get your kids to come play for their team(s)?

I will grant you that while Lakebum is the one ranting about Transgenderism being a mass psychosis and mental illness (noting that you have also argued this) it was 19B that expanded that to include sexuality. So, specifically, I was wrong to say you were only including transgender people with your graphic. Apologies.

I’ve done this one many times on here and I’m about to log off for a bit so can’t do a prolonged back and forth right now, but you deserve the courtesy of a reply and explanation.
The numbers on that graph aren’t what I’d call a mass psychosis, but they would qualify as a social contagion (or if you find the word to be kinder and gentler, a fad).
To me it’s just beyond the realm of possibility for that to be a totally organic, evolutionary spike in the timeframes the increases occurred in. There’s no great explanation for it other than there are external social and cultural variables exerting upwards pressure on the numbers.
Again, this stance also involves me fully believing that gay individuals and their piece of those stats, as they have insisted for decades now, are born with their preferences. Those spikes have to have involved individuals choosing to identity with that lifestyle rather than being inherently born with it, again indicating social pressures. There just isn’t any true genetic trait I can think of that increases 5x in the span of two generations.

I think some of the explanation behind that graphic is undoubtedly due to peer pressure from social media and youth culture seeing the issue of sexual/gender fluidity as "cool".
But, I also think the openness/tolerance and acceptance of sexual/gender fluidity also speaks to why the rates have risen. Those younger generations don't see them as "contagions" but ideas to be explored. It's part of figuring out who they are at that age. It's why the "Q" in LGTBQ often stands for "questioning".
It's why I think you also see a rise in the millennial grouping, but in lower amounts. Those taken by the "fad" drop off, but many others do not and so we still see larger numbers identifying as LGBTQ (versus previous years). One could argue the older generations might have higher numbers but their societal pressures keep them from admitting it.
I'd be careful with expanding the topic to the biology of sexuality simply because these surveys only show an increase in those identifying themselves as LGTBQ, not an increase in actual numbers of gay/transgender people. The same societal pressures that can make someone believe being LGTBQ is "cool" also make it more likely to remove the stigma of identifying yourself as LGTBQ. Additionally, considering the broadness of the term LGTBQ and what it applies to, it's probably foolish to make larger assumptions outside the realm of the survey.
