Proposed "Hill" Changes... For it, or against it?

Apr 11, 2023, 12:50 PM

I think we have all seen the proposed changes to "The Hill". This is a clip of what the next steps are. Are you in favor of these changes? I personally am not in favor of these changes as they will lead to the elimination of "The Hill" in the future. I think they should be building around making "The Hill" even better... not taking steps to make it worse.

Clemson’s proposed hill changes — which would convert the area into the type of amphitheater-style setup one might see in a public park — are being folded into a larger project that will also improve and update the university’s stormwater drainage system. (The main part of that system runs under Memorial Stadium.) The construction project doesn’t technically require approval from the Clemson board of trustees, according to a spokesperson, but athletic director Graham Neff will likely brief board members on the change during their regularly scheduled April 20-21 spring quarterly meeting. Assuming a bid is secured under a normal timeline, Clemson would start work on the hill and stormwater renovations project in May 2023 and finish it around July 2023, well ahead of the football team’s Sept. 9 home opener against Charleston Southern.

I have no use for this project. The article references safety issues and students being injured because of overcrowding at the bottom and in the middle at different times. That’s not a safety issue it’s a behavioral issue. If the moron students don’t know how to act or respect each other then don’t let them sit there. Other people can occupy the area and we won’t have to modify/destroy a tradition because idiots don’t know how to act.

Put families back on the hill and the problem is solved. Cheaper tickets and the bank will fill up and with most families young one want be drunk and disorderly.

If successful, they will put in a tall retaining wall and expand the berm seating at McWhorter to 5 tiers.

I am for anything that will make it look better than it does now when the team runs down the hill and it's half bare. Not a good look on TV.

First of all, the Hill hasn't been packed with students in years, probably going back to Notre Dame in 2015.

Secondly, the Hill was routinely packed in the 1980's when Death Valley would seel 86,500 tickets to a game.

I have never read where a student or students have gotten hurt on the Hill over the past 45 years while attending a game.

Lastly, the drainage system work fairly well on the night of the 100 year flood when Notre Dame came to Death Valley back in 2015. So, I seriously doubt Death Valley has a storm drainage problem now, especially around the Hill area.

This proposed change is a beginning effort to "Kill the Hill." :(

The Hill ceased to be “The Hill” in 1982 when they …

… filled in the corners. I guess they felt as if leaving a patch of grass in the middle preserved the tradition sufficiently.

I don’t care what they do with it at this point …

As long as they leave a corridor for the team to run down, I honestly think permanent seats would be the most sensible way to go.

I agree With having seating. But let be for students at reduced cost Try to keep the #### of a fire chief out the decisions. He cares nothing for the students and prob the university. Send him an invitation to see the new hill then tell him nicely to never come back

They could put in counter/bar tops on the rails for the standing room folks who stand there and then put a bar and concessions up top like the new social deck in the end zone at Neyland.

Since they let in students from the gate on the student side (many who arrive late) they get blocked from filling the other side until after the run down the Hill.

I say dedicate one side to families for a discounted ticket. The other side for students. With this terracing that would probably help to keep things better organized. Families will arrive early for a good spot, so the Hill will finally be fully populated again.

As long as the ability of the team to run down the hill is not disturbed; I think having seats would be better!

At some point; it's going to happen.

CFB is an "arms race" we can't afford to lose any ground in. Some of these recruits might pick a school because they like "the team colors or uniforms more than the other"! Some have mentioned more to the subject; "wanting to play in x or y or z stadium because of how neat/nice and big it is"!

We need to be able to keep up.

Terrible changes

the Running Down The Hill was so amazing because you could pack along the ropes like sardines

this is going to remove that look and feel

i'm not sure why we're spending money on this while Georgia is about to secure Dylan Raiola and win 2 more Nattys

we need to get players and spend money to get them . no Clemson fan has ever wanted concrete seats in the Hill .
