The mighty SEC vs ranked competition
May 15, 2014, 1:24 PM
|
|
Only THREE SEC teams have a winning record vs. teams that finish the season ranked over the last 3 years.
Congrats coots. If you could only quit losing to teams like Tennessee you might have a shot at winning an SEC title.

Cooting should be thought of as indicative of apparent failure during a period of self-announced success.

I imagine. LSU, A&M, OOC games etc. Carolina plays teams that are ranked near the bottom of the top 25 that don't actually belong there, and of course....us :/

Unfortunately, have to give the coots some credit. Personally, I believe where a team finishes the season is more important than their ranking when you play them, simply because their final ranking is a better indicator of their overall body of work. Not saying it's a perfect metric, but more indicative of the quality of the opponent.

them. Because when all 14 teams get ranked by the eSECpn influenced media, there just is not a lot of room for other teams to be ranked in the top 25.

This is not surprising to those who really keep up with it, rather than just listen to the eSECpn spin doctors and the fans of all the weak links in that conference.

There is no doubt the SEC has a few really good teams, and unfortunately USuCk has been one of them lately.
That being said, what really grinds me is how ESPN will spew out the great depth and quality of the league as a whole. When you look at these numbers, it doesn't lie. The top few teams are very good, (like most conferences). And maybe some of the middle tier teams are decent.
But the bottom half of the league is 13-106 against ranked teams during the last 3 years. That's crazy bad!

Those #'s are from teams that finished ranked in the top 25. Clemson was 5-6. LOU was the highest ranked team Clemson beat. They finished #12.

Is Clemson an almighty SEC team? I could have sworn we joined the ACC in the '50s, although I wasn't alive then so I can't be too sure. I just started watching football about 5 years ago.

Even former Big East powerhouse basketball programs are copying Clemson now.
I expect Michigan State to want a home-and-home in the near future.
In women's chess.

Interesting note about the mighty Alabama
May 15, 2014, 10:12 PM
|
|
"Alabama and Vanderbilt have played the fewest games against ranked opponents in the final polls over the past three seasons, each with 12 games. Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss and Tennessee have played the most, each with 17 games."
Don't get me wrong; they'r good, but schedule teams with a pulse.
