The Path

If Clemson wins out it will be between OSU/Mich loser & Clemson.

TCU will lose & ACC > Big 12 this year. Clemson will have better win if UNC holds its water.
USC has 3 tough games left & will lose
UGA beats LSU
That leaves UGA, Ohio St/Mich winner & Tenn in.

Clemson is absolutely, 100% in the playoff if TCU and USC

both lose a game. I would bet my life savings on it... which is probably about 7 million dollars if I had to guess.

Exactly what I see..

and Fear too.

Clemson is not a top 4 team imho nor has looked or played like one (not even had a 4-quarter game yet!).

We would be served better overall to go to the Orange Bowl & win than be beaten again badly in CFP as last two times. But making the CFP would be unreal & welcomed too.

But, getting by the next 3 games is paramount especially Tar Heels in ACCCG!!!

I would love another shot at UGA. It's just one game.

Nov 17, 2022, 9:39 AM

My guess is that we would get beat by 10-13 points, but in a one game season, we absolutely could beat them.

Would we be playing uga? I say no. Not in the first game anyway. The scenario laid out whereas we being a conference champion and getting in over the mich/ osu game loser, I think we're the 3 seed.

Here's why: in this scenario you're saying the committee is giving us preference and would choose us over Michigan because we're a 1 loss conference champion. So, applying that logic, the debate would have to be who has the better resume between Michigan and Tennessee. Everyone says Tennessee and that logic puts them in the 4 spot.

We'd play osu.

I hear ya, but I think they would want to avoid a UGA/TENN

rematch in Round 1. My hunch would be (in that scenario)
1. UGA
2. Mich/Ohio St
3. Tenn
4. Clemson

I don't understand wanting to fail because of fear of the competition.

I'd rather lose by 30 in the playoffs than win a non playoff bowl game.

and there is no guarantee we'd beat Alabama/LSU/Michigan/whoever in a bowl game, so why not shoot for winning it all?

Tenn is Not a Sure Thing...***

I agree with you TN is not a sure thing but if they win out, and look good doing it, they are going to be in position for sure. The one question the committee is going to ask themselves is whether or not there are 4 teams better than TN. This is all about how they rank a team and not solely about conference champions so TN is going to look pretty good when they consider the ranking of the 4 best teams.

I could see it working out as you have outlined. My only concern is they still have a 2-loss Alabama one spot ahead of us. At some point, we need to leap past them. I worry that if they are still ahead of us going into the ACC Championship, there is some risk that the politics come into play in Alabama's favor.

If they play it straight then what you outlined is very possible. I guess I just don't completely trust the process to say it would definitely work out that way.
