Staley likely would’ve committed to Clemson but the WR room was already full (maybe a silent commit?). It made me wonder, in the past have their been any folks we had to shut down recruiting with that would’ve been commits that went on to have stellar careers, ie, it would’ve been a huge benefit to have them on the roster?

Hope everyone is managing this off-season… it won’t be too long before practices and such will start back and we will have good content! Until then, I will be wondering about these edge cases and watching old games.

Probably not going to be a popular response but Brian Edwards from Conway. The WR room was full and we offered as a DB. He of course opted to the Midlands school as a WR and was successful, I just wonder what he could have done here with the talent Clemson would have had around him.

Pretty sure Bruce Ellington would have come to Clemson with Andre as a sophmore but we did not recruit very hard. He played so many different positions to include QB, WR and DB. He turned into a great WR and returner, good success in pros.

If you remember Bruce had a stellar AAU Basketball career and went to SC primarily due to basketball.

Forgot about his basketball playing. I went to Berkeley HS and knew the coaches as both Ellington's came through. I just remember them telling me Andre was way under-rated and Bruce has as much talent but Clemson isn't recruiting hard. I knew he was hard to slot but forgot about the BBall aspect.

Though different DK Joyner comes to mind in that he was convinced he could play college QB, we told him with T Lawrence coming in we could offer him as an athlete/DB but not QB. Mushchamp told him he could be QB, so he went to SC. He has had some shining moments at SC, but is now playing his 3rd position none of which have been DB which is where we told him he should play.

DK would’ve been a nice addition at a different position. He was stuck on being QB.
