in Saban's retirement. I couldn't believe that people actually believed that. Of course it did! He has made that abundantly clear in recent comments.

He also realized that players getting more freedom to transfer as well as more money from endorsements reduced the power he had as one of the power forwards players in college football.

I think Dabo is feeling that same decrease in his influence.

Is there an English translation of this post?

Just was one extra word in there, was easy to understand:

Coaches who are used to being in charge and who are accustomed to the longstanding power structure in college football are not keen on these new changes that give players more power and control than they’ve historically had. I don’t like some of these recent changes either, but they are the new reality and coaches must adapt.

I think Saban decided it wasn’t worth trying to adapt to anymore. It’s the same reason why some have speculated that Dabo might not stay in it very long either.

I always thought the head coach was in charge of his roster. Did I miss something?

But players have way more say now than they used to in terms of how they are treated. There are more protections in place for players, and they have more rights than they used to.

Surely you can admit that players have more rights these days than they did when Bear Bryant, Frank Howard, Danny Ford, and Gene Stallings were coaching. Coaches could basically abuse players in those days if they wanted to.

Now there are restrictions in terms of practice time, practice schedules, etc. And of course players can now transfer without penalty and get paid for NIL. They also have a voice through social media. Very different from how it used to be.

This is wrong. He actually supported the players getting paid, even being employees like the NFL, his words, but also with the regulations that the NFL has, salary cap. The NIL in its current state unfairly benefits schools with unlimited funds. The portal/auction does the same. It will get regulated when ESPN decides its time. Hopefully Clemson will still be relevant by then.

You are framing it as though Saban and other coaches are butthurt because they can't run the their programs like dictators. That ignores the fact that the coaches are put into a situation where they ate hired to coach students, who also function as employees.

Clemson recruiting is going great guns, Dabo has lost no influence.
As it should be when you run a program that actualy cares about the
student athlete. While you portal clowns want to try and buy your
way to a Natty. How is that going for the big coot Beamer?

If that is all it takes aTm would be Top 5 every year. Coaching and culture still matter and that will keep us relevant and competitive.

...just coming out and saying yep that was why it was time to hang it up.

"I thought we could have a #### of a team next year, and then maybe 70 or 80 percent of the players you talk to, all they want to know is two things: What assurances do I have that I'm going to play because they're thinking about transferring, and how much are you going to pay me?" Saban recounted. "Our program here was always built on how much value can we create for your future and your personal development, academic success in graduating and developing an NFL career on the field.

"So I'm saying to myself, 'Maybe this doesn't work anymore, that the goals and aspirations are just different and that it's all about how much money can I make as a college player?' I'm not saying that's bad. I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying that's never been what we were all about, and it's not why we had success through the years."

I would venture that Dabo feels exactly the same.

I said that and it still holds true on his original statement. He's putting this out there because he's got a big voice and it'll get big airtime. You all will suck it up because it fits your agenda.

Saban retired because as he first stated, he didn't feel he could give 100 anymore. He and the wife/family discussed it and he decided to retire. He didn't like what's going on but as he explicitly stated originally, this had no bearing on his decision.

You can take that to the bank. And yes, I'll take miss Terry's words over yours.

Some said that was the only reason he retired which was silly. His story has changed since his original statement as he is trying to use his retirement to support the cause. Not sure the point of your post but congrats regardless
