SEC and BIG10, population of possible expansion states

Population of states P2 conferences looking to expand in
State / population
NC 11 mil
GA 11 mil
VA 9 mil
SC 6 mil
NC basically has twice as many people than SC does. Hoping the Clemson Brand will overcome the low population in SC.

It isn't about population. For the B1G it is about entry into the southern US. For the SEC it is about not allowing that.

I can tell you out of that 11 million in NC, I don't think anyone above the age of 16 watches NC FB. They watch Duke and UNC basketball and Panthers FB. I can guarantee you that of the 6 million in SC, over 2 million above the age of 16 watch Clemson FB. And nationwide broadcasts of Clemson playing in prime time draws more viewers than UNC or Va playing FB. Hardly anyone really cares about those two FB teams.
Anyone who talks about population in states transferring to tv viewers of college FB in that state driving conference expansion is living in the dark ages. NJ and NY has a huge population. Do you think anyone in those states watch Rutgers FB or Syracuse FB to any degree. But if you put Clemson, Bama, UGA, OSU, Texas, etc. on a prime time broadcast in those two states, millions will watch.
So, the tv folks have decided that the best way to get viewers is to put the top brands on TV, and let the eyes across the landscape follow. And Clemson is a top brand. Does not matter about the pop. of SC. It matters about the quality of the FB.....the brand.

Exactly. I travel a lot and often wear some sort of Clemson apparel. I can’t tell you how many people tell me they are Clemson fans. When I ask, they usually tell me they have no material connection to Clemson except watching the football team play on television.
The Clemson brand has grown far beyond the state of SC. I think a lot of people like our brand because of our culture and what we stand for.
