First off, I'm going to preface this by saying - of course I loved the good times, the Natty's, the playoffs, the rise to prominence, and am as disappointed as anyone in the performance this year. That said...
I love college football. But lately it's been all NIL, conference re-alignment, network affiliations, and more commercials than feels sustainable. Which takes the fun out of it.
But now, we're here arguing about play calling. About locker room dynamics and player attitudes. About which running back is better and why. About which position coaches are pulling their weight. We have coaches ranting at our fans, and fans ranting at our coach. Coaches will be fired, hired, promoted, and relegated. Players will step up, others will transfer, some will fade away. And it's great!!!! THIS is college football.
The outcome has been disappointing, but it feels like for the first time in forever, we're finally arguing about real football!
