This is from the Oklahoma State website. It says discussions

with the ACC are moving at a fast pace, among a lot of other possibilities. I for one have a respect for Oklahoma State and like their program. However, I really don't want to see the ACC have a school way outh there on an island. I would much prefer Notre Dame and West Virginia, or just Notre Dame, or even Notre Dame and Navy.
If these discussions are actually taking place, it could put a little pressure on Notre Dame if they feel the ACC is about to go to the full 16. Not realyy giving Notre Dame an ultimatum, but at the same time letting them know, "hey, the world keeps turning and we have to roll with it".
Anyway, I think this is a very good summary of Oklahoma State's options at this point.

Ok State would be a pretty good add.
Pros: An hour from Oklahoma City, which is a pretty good town, so a decent road trip. Orange school color. Tumbleweeds.
Cons: Coach Grundy cut his mullet off.

I spent 2 weeks in Stillwater back in the 80's when I worked for Clemson. It was very enjoyable and can only imagine how it's grown. The stadium was pretty cool too.

Navy isn't a viable option as judge Keller pointed out because of their students having to stay in 5 years. So they wouldn't be competitive.
I know you've been adament about wva because it makes sense geographically but we're talking money and national appeal. Wva has neither. Ok St is very competitive in ALL sports. It's a good fit for the ACC.
I think ND would hold their nose and join. Because of the 2036 contract, it'd be almost impossible for B1G to pick them up. It'd be up to the courts imo. So you end up with p4. Good luck ND trying to schedule games. We're not talking only football.

I think most fail to realize that with this new NIL it's a brand new college football world. Teams like West Virginia could easily make significant jump as far as being competitive. My personal preference would be West Virginia and Texas AM. If we take 4 Notre Dame and USF. Appalachian state is interesting take as well. Charlotte 49ers is a few years away but I also could seem them making a jump in the next 5 years.

HOw is West Virginia a better take now that we are in a NIL world? The state is literally shrinking in terms of population and they haven't been relevant on the national stage for about a decade. NIL is a near death sentence for West Virginia and a lot of other marginal football schools.

No NIL money in WVa.
Not gonna happen!
Most people don’t really understand how this is going to work. It’s going to benefit a tiny percentage of athletes. A handful will make a bunch of money. There will be a middle class and then there will be those at the bottom making nothing.

Oklahoma State would be a good addition and give the ACC a footprint in the area.

Just my feelings, but Notre Dame -should be off the board! They have been handed the keys to the city last year and then back to what was best for them. They want in now- let it be on their knees- no concessions, no stipulation, this is it. take it or leave it.

I hear you, but ND has a very marketable football tradition. Despite their recent subpar performance in the CFP they are still a legit blue-blood program and one of the few needle movers in terms of conference viability.

I have respect for OK State but that makes no sense to me at all, especially compared to WVU. WVU brings a solid football program with an established history, geographic contiguity, natural rivalries, and a loyal and passionate fan base. Perennial ncaa tournament team in basketball. Built a brand new baseball stadium a few years ago. Millions recently invested in football facilities.
Would a neutral college football fan be more likely to watch WVU-Pitt or OK State-Pitt? WVU-VT or Baylor-VT? WVU-UVA or OK State-UVA? WVU would accept immediately and arguably possesses the best available football program other than ND (no one is leaving the SEC or Big Ten for the ACC). Given that the academic argument (to the extent one exists) went out the window with Louisville, there’s really no sensible reason to oppose adding WVU other than just not liking them.

99Alum, 9 Lives just nailed it. It's the money and the National appeal. While ok st is no where close to the appeal of Texas or Oklahoma, they're more appealing than wva. The TV market isn't moving the needle for a VT/wva matchup.

Why does Oklahoma State have more national appeal than WVU?

Forgive the anecdote, but I’ve lived in six states in four different regions of the country (East, Southeast, West and Midwest) and I can’t recall meeting one Oklahoma State fan or alum in my life.

Super Conferences and NIL - ruining college atletics

I'm not going to list the many reasons, but this is sad. The power grab and $$$$ grab --- this is pathetic! A sad reflection of our societal values, which is certainly not EDUCATION!
