This isn't about free speech

I teach 6th grade. So according to some on Tigernet, if a student doesn't like the way that I teach they have the right to disobey me and boo me if I walk in the class. Hey, they have free speech right.
I go to a church that prays every week for our President Barak, our Governor Nikki and our Mayor Steve. I don't agree with one of their politics, so according to some on Tigernet, I should boo during this time. (I think it is also in Scripture but I am sure that some of the "boo'ers" on Tigernet know the Scripture better than I).
You will have an opportunity to exercise your free speech on November 6. Oh, and by the way, that is in the Constitution.

FWIW, I agree with you 100%. Whether or not I happen to like the person inhabiting the White House--and I often do not--I'm never going to be that disrespectful of the office. I do not think it is an especially positive reflection on the University, either, and I love Clemson. But poor form is just that, regardless of where it takes place. I believe folks should vote to their heart's content and cheer on the Tigers in Death Valley.

Yes as a Christian we should pray for our leaders. He is a sinner just like everyone else and Paul said Jesus came into the world to save sinners. You're no different than he is and Christ can save him just as he saved a wretch like me

Sure people can boo, curse, and say just about anything in public. Does that make it right? Not in my world and it should not in yours. So in your opinion anyone can say anything and get away with it. Guess its not our business HUH. We live in a spoiled ### rotten society and its people like you that accept it. I will never.

Let's see. Here we have a teacher who thinks....

it's O.K. for a bunch of 12 year old CHILDREN to disobey and talk back to the teacher if they don't like how the teacher teaches. Sorry, but you are wrong. 12 year old kids aren't mature enough to have free speech rights in the classroom. Bet your classroom is is chaos on a daily basis. Take control of your class and act like the adult, not another 12 year-old.

Come to my classroom. It is in control. Every morning we have a moment of silence and the pledge. I teach Social Studies. Part of Social Studies is learning to appreciate different opinions. It does not mean that you need to accept other opinions. It just makes me sad that our kids are growing up in a world devoid of people willing to LISTEN to another viewpoint. And by the way, just because I said my church prays for the President and just because I said that I think that booing the President is rude, doesn't mean that I am voting for the President. People just aren't willing to listen and discuss in a civilized manner.

I'm glad our forefathers in the latter half of the eighteenth century weren't so concerned with politeness in the face of disgraceful corruption and approaching tyranny. Comparing boos at a football game to classroom disruption is ludicrous... just spare me!!

My guess is probably not. That, my friend, tells you about all you need to know. So who cares what these idiots think. Now let's get back to Clemson SPORTS shall we?

thing is.there is a penalty for disobeying a teacher..

aka the principals office.but booing the pres there is no penalty for doing so.some will look at it as being immature and that is their right.but showing out in a class room and booing a president at a football game are apples and oranges

Will you people give this topic a rest!! It happened. It wasn't widespread. It's over. There's nothing you can do about. Neither side is going to change the other sides opinion. All you can do is agree to disagree.
