Has Dabos brand as an elite coach/potential hire taken a hit?

Sep 15, 2023, 3:08 PM

Never woulda asked that 3 years ago when it was considered sacrilege to even talk about Dabo take another job elsewhere. I think we can safely say unless we somehow regain our national prominence, the Dabo to Bama ship has sailed. Most Bama folks I know don’t want him especially with the way our program is trending.

So that begs the question: could Dabo still land a blue chip program coaching job elsewhere or has his brand taken a hit?

Yes, I think he has alienated himself from many potential high profile schools because of his stance on the portal. College football has one goal for the universities nowadays, and that is money. And while winning may be the best way to make money it’s not the only way to sell tickets.

If Crazy Clemson fans keep asking stupid questions like this then Dabo may very well take another job and yeah go To Bama!!
Thanks Dabo for all you have done at Clemson!

I was just reviewing one list that named the Top 10 Coaches in College Football:

1. Nick Saban
2. Kirby Smart
3. Jim Harbaugh
4. Dabo Swinney
5. Lincoln Riley
6. Brian Kelly
7. Ryan Day
8. Kyle Whittingham
9. Luke Fickell
10. James Franklin

Of coaches 6-10, in the 10 CFB playoffs that have taken place, only Kelly and Day have actually taken a couple of teams to the playoffs.

Of the top 5 coaches, only 3 have won national championships: Saban, Smart and Dabo.

Only Alabama has made more trips to the CFB playoffs than Dabo, 7 vs. 6. Harbaugh has made 2 and Riley has made 3.

The last 2 years for Dabo were not playoff years but even with a mediocre QB and new OC/DC, we only missed the playoffs last year by maybe the loss to SC.

The point is, no matter how much you think the program has fallen off, when you compare Dabo to the other Top 10 coaches out there, he still stands well ahead of most of them.

Asking if he could find a top job elsewhere is pretty silly but the answer is he could basically have his pick if he ever becomes available. He may be slow to change in some areas but he will adapt if he believes it is truly best for the program, no matter where he is.

Perhaps. But it would be because he doesn't believe in win at all costs.
