I doubt most of y'all are keeping up with it, bein as crawfish ain't a big thing in my homeland, but them baws in luzeeana havin a time w/ the crawfish crop this year.
been creepin on some luzeeana boards, and prices are starting to come down. but it was a rough fall / early winter.
we usually send invites out a full month before. this year we'll do it right, now that we don't have a 4 week old baby.

and was not the discussion. going to the Master's as a sporting event was the discussion.
if you're too pompous to admit that going to the Master's would be a dope experience, then I want whatever you're having. whether you like golf or not.
certain sporting events and venues have that draw. and in the South, it's the Master's.
I'd liken it to Lambeau field, old yankee / dodger stadium / fenway, playoff football / baseball, etc.
very unique experience that anyone who lives in the area would appreciate, whether you're a golf fan or not.
not asking you to turn into the arnold palmer invitational this weekend and follow it shot for shot...

I watch golf sometimes. I've been to ANGC for the Masters. Box checked, wouldn't trade the experience for the world, also won't go again.
That said, I can totally see why someone wouldn't care to go watch golf....at ANGC or Boscobel for that matter.

That is quite possibly the funniest reference I've ever heard for The Masters.
I was fortunate to be born into a family that received 4 tickets thanks to my grand parents getting them in the mid 1950's. I went just about every year between '73 and '86 when my grandmother passed away and we no longer got the application. And in those days it truly was an old white dudes Coachella. Now? maybe not so much.

When you’re walking in 30 minutes after the gates open, and there are dudes walking out with bags and bags of merch. Given there’s no re-entry, you immediately know these people spent $1500-2k on a practice round ticket just to burn it to buy a crap ton of merch for resale online.
Youd think Augusta would implement a max purchase amount to alleviate this practice, and trace the badges/ticket origins for these guys and never sell that person a ticket again.

No chance? There are about a gazillion facets of the tournament where

ANGC forfeits potential profits in the name of decorum. Seedy dudes walking out the gift shop with as many bags as they can carry (and using a potential patron's ticket to do so) only to have them reappear online at 2x the price isn't a look Augusta would typically be happy with.
If it were a pure profit motive, that gift shop would be outside the gates, not inside it.

What's the difference in that and buying an ANGC flag in the shop (that comes with it's own Sharpie) so the "kids" can get autographs as the players come off the practice tee? ANGC knows what goes on. So they offer a pimento cheese sandwich and a beer at 1972 prices. They make it up elsewhere.
I've been to the last 3 Opens here (Pinehurst) and seen players avoid anyone that looks over the age to 10 trying to get them to sign their flag. The players know where it's gonna end up and it ain't on Junior's wall.
Just like most everything else in the world. It gets messed up when humans are involved.

probably not since they built the new practice area it got wiped out by construction. It was whan I was growing up because we stopped there a few times to grab a cap or a bag towel.
It was near Magnolia Lane/Washington Road, not a full size shop but a trailer-like booth like you'd see at a baseball game selling items. Couldn't even go in, it was just a guy behind a raised counter. You could only get smaller items like hats, umbrellas, disposable raincoats, towels, keychains and trinkets - stuff you may have "forgot" to buy or if bad weather was around. It was kinda hidden so maybe it was for the locals who didn't want to go in but wanted some trinket.
They also had a "ticket-drop" booth there so you could leave your badge there for your friend the next day. All that has probably been disbanded with the hyper-event it has become.
I go back to when anyone could just show up for the practice rounds and walk in for $5 or so, no limit, no advance ticket needed. Little round sticker is what you'd get to slap on your shirt for the day.

About the old practice rounds. We would skip high school and drive down for the day, although they were $15 by the late 80’s.

We did too. Although it was $10 when we went. The Golf Digest prints an article "The Best Kept Secrets in Golf". Hey, you can go to the Masters practice round!!! Thanks for ruining it guys. About a year or two later, the waiting list for practice round tickets began.

the best Masters deal I ever fell into...

early 2000's. I was headed down to Lowcountry SC for a few days from Tennessee where I lived at the time.
Midday Saturday, drove straight through Augusta on the way. Decided to drive down Washington Rd to get a whiff of the flavor of Augusta National. Stopped at a store just down the road from Magnolia Lane to get a soda. Saw a dude getting in his car looked like he was already leaving ANGC for the day. I said "Going home already?" something to that effect. He said yeah got stuff to do and a long drive, been here all week, my buddies already left last night. He said, you want the badge? $100 cash. I can't come tomorrow either.
SOLD. Luckily I had a $100 bill I always carried in my wallet for emergency purposes. This was a proper time to use it.
I spent the rest of the afternoon there saw most of the course and players, ate a bunch of pimento cheese sammiches.
Walking back to my car, I sold the badge to somebody for $500 so they could use for Sunday.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, laughers, screamers. Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
