Timing may be Brad Brownell's greatest threat

IMO there are two factors that may hurt Brownell when Neff looks at the big picture.

First, the ACC is historically bad. Even with a very good record in league, we still didn't make it to the championship game or tournament. Neff has to see this time in ACC basketball history as an opportunity to make a move to the top. He has to ask himself if Brownell is the guy to establish us at the top of the league.

Second, who knows how long we will be in the league. Neff has to be also assessing the long term status of the program as we look to a possible move into another league in the next 3-5 years.

Either or both work against Brownell IMO. If all the dynamics of a weakened league and expansion did not exist, one could see a path to stay the course with Brownell as the path of least resistance.

We can hope. My only concern is that Neff only listens to alums that will never say a bad thing about any coach or program. There's pollyannas that must feel that after 14 seasons, Brad will finally learn how to coach. It's not happening. Frankly if we fire him, I don't think there's a division 1 program the least bit interested in interviewing him for a job.
