Men lost at sea often stay sane by believing help is coming. I see parallels here!

I thought Gomer Pyle was the US Senator from Central, SC.
NOT the ACC Commissioner, but I may be wrong….

Things will not change, and Clemson will have a huge revenue gap for years to come.
The SEC will not expand, and the ACC will limp along by financial comparison.

We just have to continue being Clemson, special……

Go Tigers, Whoop Dook!

Ok, @dhood please break this down in English and in your assessment and opinion, are you planning to write an article with your take?

Kudos on a great question btw. 👏
Would love details on what these new initiatives are. I do agree with one thing. Let's chase success and not just numbers.

Imo, and many others, what needs to happen is our acc brethren need to win the games between acc vs b1g and sec. Do that and everything else takes care of itself.

I concur 100%.
Pitt and Syracuse and Nancy Stank - stop putting all your collective eggs in the; "beat Clemson bucket" and go out and win some out-of-conference games!

We had an off-year O.O.C l.y. true. But, we have carried the ACC O.O.C wise in terms of competing and winning! FSU did a good job last year in beating LSwho. Duke beat Northwestern. Cuse did beat Big 10 West champion, Purdue. And, but for a couple of botched calls, Pitt would have given TN its first L.

It is now and has always been more hype around some conferences based on either: fan hysteria and enthusiasm or traditional football powers from before TV was invented(Big 10 lore).
The facts don't always line up with how good or bad a program really is. You give the SEC credit for its top-tier teams: "But that's it"! It's not like the rest of that putrid conference is instantly credible. Not to me anyway or most people with the ability to look at the facts.

Win out of conference games ACC and the rest will start taking care of itself. But, it can't just be Clemson and FSU.
As recently as 2016 the ACC was 9-3 in bowl season and had a National Champion! Reality doesn't always catch up with perception.
Someone is saying, but , the money! What about all that money in the SEC?

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, the general consensus was the ACC was the strongest

If we are stuck here in the ACC there needs to be a newly structured payout plan regarding all football related revenue. The money should be awarded based on each team's conference ranking at seasons end. I'm sick and tired of lesser teams from more powerful conferences being more handsomely rewarded for a mediocre or worse performance. It puts Cemson at a great disadvantage that is unsustainable for a team competing with other heavyweights for titles. It may seem unfair to others but the status quo is far worse.

There is legislation aimed to regulate NIL (I haven't read the stories).
There is zero reason why the NFL requires athletes to be 3 years in college (the SEC and B1G kryptonite).
There USFL is emerging as a potential developmental league.

Basically -- The NFL can seize the moment and put an end to college football and use it's USFL and Canada leagues as the analogs to the NBAs gleague and euro leagues.

The ACC has NEVER done anything to benefit Clemson.

It's history has ALWAYS been to be a basketball conference and promote the tobacco road.

It's headquarters are in Greensboro, NC, the center of the 4 NC basketball schools.

It held the ACC basketball tourney in Greensboro for years giving the 4 NC basketball schools a home court advantage. For decades It made sure the odds favored a NC basketball team was the only one from the ACC going to the NCAA tourney by having the winner of the tourney be the one going to the big dance.
Not the regular season conference winner.

It's tv network, Jefferson Pilot and RayCom were Greensboro based companies. It's long time commissioner was a UNC graduate.

It had a basketball tournament long before it ever had a ACC football championship game to decide the winner of the ACC.

It went out of its way to bring in basketball schools when it expanded.

It has produced great NORTH CAROLINA basketball teams and coaches while ignoring football. And we wonder why North Carolina schools suck at football and the fans could mostly care less about it.

And we kiss the ACC's ### like it has done great things for us and football.

I detest the ACC and so did Maryland and the coots in Columbia. They were both smart to get the hel l out of the conference.

Jim Phillips is a loser, just like the ACC conference will always be a loser.

Should basketball revenues go to the schools that make and advance in the NCAA tournament and not to the programs that... suck?

If it is good enough for football, I assume it is good enough for basketball.

The Money Gap is Real, but

Jul 25, 2023, 6:42 PM

I will just use a few examples, off the top of my head:
Georgia Southern going into the swamp - clear money disadvantage. Yet, the Eagles went in and won. San Jose State, flying across country and beating Arkansas and their "suuu-weeeee hog having calls" and you know the divide there in talent and revenue was huge.
Can App State or The Citadel say they have the budget of SCAR? Yet, they went in "ye ole SEC country and won"!

Jacksonville St. beating Auburn a few years ago. It's senseless how people buy into the hype of the SEC.
So, ACC schools, stop it about the money! We beat Bama twice and their recruits composite ranking and their athletic budget dwarfs ours.

Most of the ACC schools have sold-out for basketball. But, even that has been terrible in the ACC as a whole lately.

OOC wins ACC!

Jul 25, 2023, 9:24 PM

Reading between the lines …
He’s admitting we can’t close the gap financially versus the SEC and B1G…
Paraphrasing
“Third place isn’t bad”
“It’s about winning championships - not money “

Basically implying that the ACC is winning championships without chasing the money (not referring to just football championships)…. Which speaks more to initiative at certain schools within the conference than the conference itself….

Re: TNET: ACC commissioner feels league can bridge revenue gap with B1G, SEC

If writers and fans would just stop worrying about what other schools get, things would be just fine. For goodness sake, we just announced a $50 million or so project at The John so does does that sound we have a money problem? Success brings money and the conference is successful.

It's very hard to bridge a revenue gap when your product is inferior. Let's face it, ACC Football is a snooze fest with the exception of just couple games a season. Clemson can at least compete on a national stage and in recent years has competed for and won national championships.
Clemson is a premier program and it belongs in the SEC.
The fact that this commissioner would say the ACC is 3rd in revenue, purely as a sales tactic for the league, tells me the conference simply does not have the right leadership in place right now. Nobody that is serious would speak like that under these circumstances. It screams mediocrity.
Time for Clemson to move on.
