ACC media predicts Clemson basketball to finish 11th
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the 2021-22 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Championship, as selected by media members at the 2021 ACC Tipoff event. Its too bad that you comment without actually following the basketball program. Almost every year CBBs teams are picked to finish in the bottom quadrant of the conference and every year he does better than the prediction.

I can count on one hand the number of games I have missed during that time, so I think I am in a pretty good position to fairly and objectively assess the men's basketball program.
How about you?

As frustrating as it may seem at times, you can't say he's not finishing above expectations most years. Y'all should beef more with the media for setting expectations low if y'all have a problem.
Clemson's BB tradition has been beat to death here - we typically were a bottom dweller outside of a handful of years here and there.
Does it mean we can't expect or hope for better? Definitely not.
I'd love to see us compete for conference titles and make the big dance most years.
IMO Clemson BB is at a point where it's mostly going to be a group of upperclassmen making noise with okay years in-between. (Easier said than stomached)

Yawn. Sky's blue, water's wet,..blah blah.
Just makes for a better story once we finish 4th or 5th. Not going to be delusional and expect us to finish first or second but I stand by my original prediction, Clemson bball gonna shock some ppl this year. I'm actually excited. Less than a month away.

that still means a lot in college basketball. I think we're better than 11th. Where we finish, who knows? College basketball is almost impossible to predict anymore with all the turnover most teams have every year

I’ll give you veteran but I’ll wait and see on “excellent.” We’ll be relying heavily on 2 transfers who have never played against ACC caliber competition on the regular to be major contributors. Any amount of growing pains by those two and we’ll be outside looking in on the tournament by January strictly playing spoiler in the ACC. Given that’s generally been our role under Brownell I see it way more likely. But hope I’m wrong.

He hangs his hat on finishing in the middle-5 of the conference. Like it doesn’t matter how bad we flame out in whatever tournament we’re in.

No, most have Clemson 11th to 13th this season including predictions outside the ACC area. I am actually surprised Miami is predicated higher with a great player like Isiah Wong on the team. They also brought three good transfer players instead of just two that Clemson brought in.
I just hope we get some good news on the recruiting trail soon. 4 star top 70 recruit Vet

Me say take it to the bank, he'll be a Tiger. Where's JK. He hasn't had much to say about bball lately. May be just baby steps but I actually see more enthusiasm with the program this year. Had the 5* list us as a potential etc. A pretty good class so far. Chas classic will be fun.

Excited about both guard positions, and swingman as well. Lots of talent and versatility there.
We will shoot the ball better than we did last year.
We will get after it, defend hard, and be able to push tempo more at times than in previous years.
Hunter Tyson is going to surprise some people this year, with his play and his leadership.
As others have said, the key will be how we manage minutes down low. Hall has to play smart. Bohannon is rock solid and will play a lot. Middlebrooks will provide some minutes when needed. He’s doing to develop into a good player.

Let's be honest about the Clemson basketball program.
Oct 19, 2021, 1:38 PM
|
|
BB is entering his 12th year. His only real success is one Sweet 16 appearance. How many Clemson fans honestly believe BB will win the ACC tournament and/or reach the NCCC Final 4 in the next 3 seasons? Not me. If you are honest with yourself and fellow T-netters, I seriously doubt there is anyone who truly believes either will happen in the next 3 seasons. That will be BB's 15th season. Giving him 15 years is a gracious plenty amount of time to take Clemson to a higher level. Since it is most likely not going to happen, the only relevant question is "Why BB is still the Clemson head men's basketball coach?"
The answers are twofold. First, the majority of the Clemson fanbase does not care about Clemson basketball. I have a friend who is an alumnus and diehard football fan. Concerning basketball, he told me he would not know (or care) if Clemson was in the Final 4 or had lost every game.
Second, knowing the above and Clemson's completely average (some might say below average) historic basketball results, the Clemson administration (fat D-Rad, Clements, and the Trustees) have zero incentive to pay what is necessary to obtain and KEEP a coach who can take Clemson to the next level. They are, sadly, completely satisfied with an average coach producing average results at bargain basement prices. The financial bottom line is more important than trying to reach the next level.
I generally watch or listen to every basketball game, as long as I can stand the score. So I consider myself a Clemson fan who cares about basketball.
Unfortunately, the baseball program is next up for this same treatment.
PS: I don't have much hope of beating Pitt Saturday. I don't have a problem with a poor offensive performance. I do have a problem with coaches who can't or won't fix the problem.

I feel it is at least close to what you are saying. Still say with the new contract is more money at close to $2.5 million a season, but the buyout is less than before. That tells me Brad is still in a small window for results. If they struggle this season and don't make the NCAAT, and next year also that will be his last season.

Don't think it's just bball or baseball. Not a ton of enthusiasm for any sport other than football. I get it, football is king... But as long as I have a voice, I'll voice my opinion upon deaf ears.
I appreciate universities that are truly committed to other sports. Sadly they're not my univer.

Dabo and Brad have been here almost the same amount of time. How many of those questions would have been true for football when Dabo started? Basketball was actually on a better foundation that football when Brad and Dabo came to town. But you’re not actually a Clemson fan are you?

1. They get their facilities upgraded all the time. What specifically are they missing?
2. What does “top 25 fans” even mean? Clemson is known to have one of the best environments in college basketball when we have a good team.
3. When you complain about salaries…you never give me an answer to this: Are you saying we have the wrong coaching staff in place? Or are you saying our current coaching staff would magically win more if their paychecks had a larger number on them? It has to be one of those two. Which is it?

tangible reason for not succeeding.
You're right. The facilities are very nice. Nicer than many, many teams who do better in basketball than us. How did other coaches win here when facilities were worse?
You're right. The fans are also not a reason for not winning. That's obviously ridiculous, but he brings it up every year. As has been said hundreds of times, put a good product on the court, win, and the fans will come out. Just like they have every time we have a good basketball team.
You're right. The salaries are fine. Brad will be making $2.6M for crying out loud, and like you said a larger paycheck doesn't make a guy coach better. Our assistants are paid just fine, but I guess Judge feels they are subpar assistants because the good assistants want more money.
Judge has painted himself in the same corner he always does, and basketball season is a month away. Rinse and repeat.
