This one hurts way more than Kissayi. I really believe Owens has a ton of potential.

.....a ton of potential.

Naw, too easy.

Seriously, I wish him well. While I'm sure coach Luke liked his size, he looked slow in the spring game.

What are Owens strongest attributes?***

Seen at the HS level. He struggles with weight and based on folks that know him, he didn’t really hit it hard enough to make a difference. Sounds like a little maturation is needed if he’s gonna be a stud like I thought he would be.

Physically yes. It’s a matter of can he mature enough to play at the college level. Some of these kids can’t get a handle on juggling school, practice, film study, workouts, and leisure time. He is one of those immature guys that needed time. Hopefully he’ll get it together and find his way down the line and not turn into a Josh Belk type.

Well, we never knew what we were missing really.

If he couldn't beat out our currently average-or-below linemen, I can't imagine it's a big loss.

If you can bend and move well at 350+, AND you're willing to "buy in" to getting into football shape, you can develop nicely. If you can't, you probably won't.

He was probably no better than our 10th OL. Meaningful playing time was far from a sure bet.

Didn’t see this coming but rarely does a kid transfer when he knows he will be getting playing time. I believe In Luke and he will keep the cream of the crop and bring in the linemen we want and need in recruiting!! Go Tigers!!

I agree with the caveat that I have yet to see a Matt Luke coached OL play at Clemson. Therefore I cannot say I believe in him yet. I will say that I have high hopes just based on his ability to recruit.

I get what you are saying, but Matt Luke has done something no Clemson coach has ever done; coach first round O Line selections. Dude can coach and also understands what it's like to run a team. I already trust him as much as any other coach on the staff and more than several.

Sad to see an Olineman with his size leave but I have faith in Coach Luke. If any coach can turn this current batch of tomato cans, who last year could barely pass block or blow people off the ball, into a serviceable unit it is Coach Luke.

Sounds like Coach Luke had an honest conversation

Kid had potential, but he was 375 at the weigh-in last year and needed had to hit his target weight this spring to show progress.

Exactly. Agree 100%. 6.6 at 375.. oline is all about leverage, hands, and agile footwork, and then you have to be smart. In high, he could just push on people and probably knock them over. I hate to lose anyone but I honestly believe another transfer would fit better.

We'll probably just give the scholarship to Chapman Pendergrass.

this level, EVERYBODY is as good, or better than them. Thankfully, not all who are told they need to work hard and develop their bodies and skills take that as an invitation to transfer and try to find an easier path. If they did, every team would only have about 25 to 30 guys on it.

I can't speak for other schools, but I cannot recall a case where an ex-Clemson player went on to have greater success at another school. To me, that validates our coaches assessments, and our program philosophy of internal development of players, instead of trying to cherry pick other programs.

Now, there have been cases where programs have short term success via the Transfer Portal Potty. But, those programs literally have to re-invent themselves every year. (See Mike Norvell at the Criminoles, or Neon Deion at Colorado, although he hasn't really HAD the success there yet, only the turnover rate.) I much prefer Dabo's way of doing business over a bunch of one and doners.

Probably not the size needed and if he couldn’t get some weight off to be a lineman that can go 70 to 90+ offensive plays per game. Hope he finds himself a fit.

He may have knowledge of some high quality highly rated tackles that are getting ready to commit and come play and understood that to mean limited opportunities in the very near future. Maybe a silent commit or two in the 5 star range? Pure speculation but wouldn’t be surprising with coach Luke and looking at the 247 offer list.

Thought his nickname was "Flapjack" or "Pancake".... or was it "hambone"??

Don't know why... but I do have a good feeling, like others said, was having trouble being committed to the nutrition and maintaing his weight. Maybe he missed some accountability workouts now and again and Luke had a heart to heart with him that he wasn't going to see the field and decided to move on.

Happens all the time.... I wish him the best, and I'm sure he will find a good spot to land, and probably see the field. He has the physical tools to be great....

I'm a big boy... and I love the big guys. My nickname in the Army "Big Country".... and I used to pretend I was pulling on the bull horn of an 18-wheeler when I would self-proclaim myself as, "Big Country" with pride and joy.
