Dad passed away last night about this time. He was Tiger Tough until the end. He never complained about his old age afflictions. He handled them with a steely resolve . That same steely resolve Frank Howard noticed when he watched my Dad play in the 1949 Shrine Bowl game. Howard awarded Dad a scholarship to be part of his single wing offense. At the end of Dads sophomore year Howard moved to a faster formation as times were changing. Dad fell Down the depth chart for the remainder of his college days.
After graduation he served as an Army Officer before going into the oil business for his entire career. I learned more from this man than you can imagine, includng his steely resolve. As for Dad himself his bite was much worse than his bark ! Everyone respected him and he was always kind to people that behaved themselves !
When I see people wearing the logo “A Clemson Man Needs No Introduction” it rings true. Dad needed no introduction. He was the finest example of a Clemson Man ! He commanded a room when he entered and was all business.
