Transfer trends - leave and leave again

Oct 9, 2023, 3:16 AM

What I have noticed, decent portal players have transferred then transferred again. Look at a lot of our former players who transferred multiple times and then never found a home. Players that we wanted and have had tranfers and often issues like: Arik Gilbert, Just Flowe, etc. Players that leave and don't perform: Feaster, Pace, Bellamy, Ladson, Kendrick, etc. and other examples.

Add in the WR at UNC that inshockingly got his eligibility given because UNC fought, the player at FSU still fighting his eligibility due to multiple transfers.

Transfers are too often worried about themselves and not worried about the saying, "Grow where you are planted!".

It's a pretty habitual theme that players that transfer, often do it more than once and often dont grow or develop.

If NCAA was worried about "Student Athletes", they need to stand firm and not let players like Walker at UNC get eligibility just because he disputes it.

And yet, people still wonder why Dabo does not want these guys.

I think he missed a few games but you are correct. Did he make NFL? I lost track, but I think he would have if he stayed at Clemson. I seem to think he did not make the draft.

He was the defensive MVP in the playoff game vs Michigan.

Justin Flowe is doing well at Arizona

Oct 9, 2023, 5:04 AM

He was a big part of why they almost beat USC this past weekend.

The kid is a baller and will probably get drafted.

Flowe was constantly hurt at Oregon. When he was on the field, he was far less than his 5-star ranking made him out to be.

Landed at Arizona b/c like DJU, options were limited for a former 5-star bust. Flowe is little more than a #### load of arrogance and little to make up for it.

Will he got to the NFL? Probably. Will he last? Doubt it.

Details on Winston Wright.

Oct 9, 2023, 7:18 AM

In 2021 he was WVU's leading receiver. He portaled to FSU in the Spring of 2022. He and FSU expected him to be the #1 receiver for FSU in 2022. But, tragedy struck. He was involved in a serious car accident. Missed all of Spring practice, summer workouts and the 2022 season. He was cleared to play and participated in Spring 2023 practice. He was projected to be #1 slot receiver, with Coleman and Wilson being the 2 starting WR's.

By the start of the season he was splitting time at slot with a true freshman, and there were two other slots that were injured. He has caught 4 passes this year. Both the other slot receivers are now healthy.

Winston has not gone to social media and announced why he quit the team. All Norvell, and the FSU athletic administration has said is he is no longer with the team. (That is the normal response when anyone leaves the team. A one sentence statement, "John Smith is no longer with the team.")

This is Wright's last year of eligibility. Speculation, but no confirmation, is that he could see his playing time diminishing and he just got frustrated and decided to move on with life after football.

There were no signs that he was anything other than a great kid, a great teammate and a hard worker. There was frustration among the fans that FSU was not targeting the slot receivers enough (sound familiar?) and not throwing the ball over the middle of the field enough (sound familiar?).

I don't know why he left. There may be a whole lot more to the story. But, "frustration due to lack of playing time so far this season and likely for the rest of the season" sounds reasonable based on the information the public has seen.

Thanks Bret. Posters make blanket statements without solid facts to support their agenda, either for or against the portal.

Facts are, portal is here to stay and can/is a valuable tool at a coaches disposal. Any coach who refuses to utilize all the tools at his/her disposal is not a good coach.
