Tremendously flawed system. You must have 6 playoff teams

At least to take it out of the hands of voters, committee, etc.
5 conference champs. 1 or 3 at large.
This committee stuff is better than computers but still very flawed.
Ohio St is the only team with no concerns just because they randomly lost the correct game.

but at some point, you start hurting the fans. let's say CU was one of the 5-6 teams under that plan this year. after a trip to orlando, we play at (say) Dallas.. we win that and go to phoenix.. win that and go to tampa. can you afford to do all that ? would you even if you could? i made all 3 trips last year, and plan to this year. but charlotte was basically free... an hour drive. this year, flights and rooms for me and the bride in orlando, plus some misc $$$ will be about $1000. it adds up. I'm retired and worked a part time gig to make it all happen.

Would be my system.
Also 11 game regular season. 12 is too many.

6 Playoff teams would be a terribly flawed system. Too much advantage for the teams with byes. If you are going to do that you may as well go back to 2 teams.

6 playoff teams = 3 games played one weekend. Then yes one team the following weekend would indeed have a bye. Highest ranking team gets that particular bye. But I see your point and actually I'm a lil slow to the party but your post helped me to understand why people are wanting the 8 playoff team format. Interesting the bye week never occured to me. Having said that I still prefer the 6 team playoff. You still have a major reason to play the best you can up to the playoffs so that you are that highest ranked team for the extra bye week. GO TIGERS!!!

In what way did OSU lose the correct game? Quite

the opposite i would argue. If they had beaten PSU and lost to somebody like Nebraska or even Wisconsin, they would be in a much better situation right now.

Would have to beat Wisconsin to get in the playoff.
Due to losing to Penn St, they can just sit at home and eat ice cream knowing they are in the top 4.

How could you possibly do better than being a lock?? If they had beaten PSU they would half to play the B1GCG and be at risk as mentioned previously.

FCS has had it correct for years --- time for FBS to figure it out. FCS now has 24 team playoff with top eight getting first round byes, but for FBS I think 12 is the right number for now. Five conference champs (ACC, SEC, B10, B12, PAC12) and the four of those champs with the strongest strength of schedule get byes (rewards conferences that have several ranked teams). The other 8 are seeded, and first round are middle December bowl games, second round are Christmas week bowl games, third round is final four New year's week and championship is early Jan. Done.
