Trivia #1 - He has nothing to do with kings, birds, or fines

Happy Birthday to this famous writer. He's dead now, and even if you can't read, you have still probably seen or at least heard of his works.
I wouldn't exactly call him a hippie but he did have hippie friends, like the guy who owned this bus.
He was a pretty smart guy, and even spent some time at Stanford, but he wrote about things closer to home. Some of his works include HUD, Terms of Endearment, The Last Picture Show, and Brokeback Mountain.
I can't tell you his most famous work because that would be almost a sure giveaway. Who's our famous birthday boy for June 3?

Yes, whether it's western lovers or just western friends, or even ex-astronauts who live in Houston and drive corvettes, we can thank Larry McMurtry for them.
Congrats to JosephG for roping this little doggy in!

are anyone who doesn't remember pre-1995 Clemson ice cream. We stared death in the face and risked salmonella and explosive diarrhea every time we bought a cone, and while some want to paper over that bravery and heroism, I never shall.

You're talking about under the loggia? I think it was CFA, Itza Pizza, and basic canteen stuff in there when I was a student. I now regret not getting a breakfast sandwich in there ever.
Edgar's was there also. I wish I'd picked up my "Hoof Arted" engraved glass mug off the wall when they closed.

I recall a Chicken 110, Chicken 120, Chicken 125 during my time.
(for those confused, that was the price of the chicken sandwich: $1.10, $1.20, etc.....)

Would it have been there in 1984-85?

I went to basketball camp then and stayed in Johnstone, and I'm vaguely recalling it being a bit bigger space-wise than when I was there as a student.
They hadn't touched Harcombe yet when I was there, so it was still OG.

I ate a TON of those tin-foil wrapped hamburger subs they made. Johnstone C was WAY too conveniently close to the Union.

That's it. He met Kesey at Stanford, I believe, and they remained friends after McMurtry went back to Texas and graduated from TCU.

Ben Johnson at his finest, and with all the great movies he was in that's saying a lot...
"You boys can get on out of here, I don't want to have no more to do with you. Scarin' a poor, unfortunate creature like Billy just so's you could have a few laughs - I've been around that trashy behavior all my life, I'm gettin' tired of puttin' up with it. Now you can stay out of this pool hall, out of my cafe, and my picture show too - I don't want no more of your business."
