Trivial thoughts about the next basketball coach

For the record, I hope Coach Brownell stays at Clemson as long as he wants to. But, eventually, he or the university will decide it's time to part ways. And, based on my research, it seems the logical choice for the next coach is .... Princeton associate head coach Brett MacConnell. That's right. Clemson has historically placed a premium on coaches whose names end in "nell." In fact, both the current coach and most recent previous coach fit the description, so in terms of the modern era, Clemson basketball is defined by "-nell" coaches. That being said, the pool from which to choose such a coach is pretty tight and shallow. Brad Brownell is indeed the only Division I head coach currently in this particularly narrow universe. So, taking it down a notch to the assistants, we do find five other candidates: BYU's Kahil Fennell, Rice's Russ Pennell, Luke McConnell of Saint Francis, Mickey McConnell of St. Mary's, and Towson's Pat O'Connell. But Princeton's MacConnell gets the nod due to his high-ranking position as associate head coach.

I am hoping that Judge Keller is working back channels to get her husband, Brad hired away. Imagine what a good coach would have done with this team this year.

The negative basketball/CBB post this morning. The Lunatic Fringw Clubhouse is in full meltdown mode because of a school-record 14 conference wins and a double bye in the ACC Tournament. CBB did a terrific job this season. Some of you people need to recognize that fact or go back to sniffing football jocks.
