The NFL could fix all these Opt Outs at the Combine very easily. The invitation

that comes in the mail should be clear: If you accept the invitation to attend the Combine, you are a full participant. Otherwise, you stay home.
It is embarrassing for the NFL to have to show only college highlight packages for the three highest rated QBs this year, since NONE of them are doing the throwing drills at the Combine. Add to that highly rated linebackers like our own Jeremiah Trotter opting out, and the Combine takes another slap in the face.
It's about time these players realize that, no matter how much money they are going to make, they are still going to be the EMPLOYEES, and the NFL teams are going to be the BOSSES. Say what you want, I all but guarantee, there will be some pushback in rookie camps on some of this Prima Donna stuff that is going on at the Combine this year.
Oh, before I forget, GET OFF MY LAWN! That is all, Carry on.

On the other hand, the NFL doesn't need the combine.

When scouting and game films were a lot harder to do and find, 60 or 70 years ago, then the combine had some value. Now, it's just a show for the NFL and a way to promote the league, not evaluate players.
NFL teams have hours upon hours of game tape on Trotter. If a general manager says, "He ran a 4.51 40, so I'm dropping him down in my evaluation. I expected him to run a 4.49" that general manager will soon be out of a job.
What can a QB do in a passing drill that even comes close in importance to what he has done in 20-40 games on the field?
Get physical measurements, do personal interviews, and evaluate game film. We don't need to know if a guy has a vertical of 34 inches versus 35 inches.

All you said may be correct, but there ARE cases where players made a lot of hay

at the Combine, relatively recently. Look no further than the case of one Mitchell Trubisky, whose agent should STILL have a trophy for biggest snow job in Combine history on his mantle.
In case anyone has forgotten, da Bears traded away TWO third round picks AND a fourth round pick, just to move up ONE SPOT, and take Mitchell Trubisky 2nd overall. Patrick Mahomes went 10th, and Deshaun Watson 12th in that same draft.
Now, Trubisky had nothing on film, at least not to me, that warranted him going anywhere NEAR that high in the draft. Let's remember, he was a one year only starter at UNC, starting a grand total of 13 games. But, his agent ran a brilliant campaign, and Trubisky was the upset nominee to be the first QB off the board in 2017, right behind DE Myles Garrett, who went No. 1 overall. Unlike Trubisky, Garrett was NOT a bust.

You are agreeing that the combine doesn’t donthe nfl much good if it fools them into bad picks. The nfl combine is about promoting the nfl and showing the kids they should take a chance on. Ruke is going to get a huge bump up. If your a top player at your position there is only one way to go if you workout. Too much of a gamble when mistakes cost millions.

^^This^^
These players now are on film by 8th grade. NFL teams have no excuse to miss game film of any prospect anymore.
It is a good commercial for the league, and the 40 runs draw a lot of interest.

Doesn't work that way. The stars make the league.

did not participate... be sure to criticize the right player...
And I do agree, acceptance includes the commitment to participate, otherwise, we will see you when we see you, if we see you...
