You're naive and in denial. Trump is that nuts and out there. The only question is, how actually senior was this white house official who wrote this?

Well it happened. A WH cabinet official is such a broad term. It happened and it was written though. An op-ed has huge power at this stage. They want to inform the nation.

Trump has changed what it means to be Republican
Sep 5, 2018, 5:43 PM
|
|
If Trump is a "conservative," then I have been duped for a long time - by Reagan and a lot of people since - about what it means to be a conservative.:
"Although he was elected as a Republican, the president shows little affinity for ideals long espoused by conservatives: free minds, free markets and free people. At best, he has invoked these ideals in scripted settings. At worst, he has attacked them outright.
In addition to his mass-marketing of the notion that the press is the “enemy of the people,” President Trump’s impulses are generally anti-trade and anti-democratic."

My thought on this and Woodward's book...
Sep 5, 2018, 6:08 PM
|

is that it doesn't really change anything for me. Isn't most of what they wrote pretty obvious and intuitively true, based on the President's public words and actions, even if these two things were never written? So I find them both kind of redundant.
The most interesting thing about them is that someone was willing to write and send in that op-ed. But content is not shocking.

The content of the op-ed was a given to me. I guess the "senior White House official" doesn't think we already assumes as much. The shocking part is that they went out of their was to write that due to their disgust for Trump and worries for the nation moving forward. That's bold.

First, it's The NY Times. Second, it's an anonymous op-ed. An op-ed that's anonymous......................

As far as very specific facts...

[ in reply to My thought on this and Woodward's book... ] |

like whether a specific individual called the President a specific thing...I don't put much stock into that. That's just he-said, she-said, and it doesn't really matter all that much, anyway.
But when you're talking about the book, or the op-ed describing the general tenor of the administration and how the President operates, it just rings pretty obviously true, just based on how we the people observe the President on a daily basis. It's not some scandalous explosive secret. Just use your eyes and ears.

The laundry list of the President's accomplishments

(the merits of which are sometimes debatable, sometimes not), jives with all of this pretty well, actually. The administration getting good things done, despite some of the President's worse qualities, is pretty much the whole point.

but I do agree that this was not an honorable thing to do. It's one thing to try to subvert potentially disastrous things from happening...the morality of that is debatable. But I can't think of a good reason to make this sort of public statement.

Melania can't just resign. Seriously though, maybe he feels he can do more to protect us from an unhinged Trump by being there. Maybe his honor belongs to the country in his mind. You never know what he is thinking.
